happiest day of my life was when I met you

the happiest day of my life
occurred 39 years ago
on a bus in South Korea

when I met her
the girl of my dreams

first had the dream
in high school
45 years ago

she came to me
in that dream
that haunted me
for eight years

Knowing that she was
waiting for me
overseas

I joined the Peace Corps
knowing that she was in Korea
I search high and low for her

and when I had given up
on the foolish dream quest
after all such things
could never come true

she came to me
a final time
telling me not to worry
she would see me soon

that night
coming off a bus
was the girl
in my dreams

I proposed three days later
married two months later
and to this day

every day
I fall in love
with her
over and over again

but the happiest day
of my life
was the day
I met the girl
of my dreams
