You Got Me
Soundtrack Of My Life

February 29
Because it does not happen very often I am going to add another day to my playlist. Following with my way of doing things... for many of the songs this month, I will pick from the Leap Year soundtrack. I love this movie. It follows the idea that on this day, women can ask their significant other to marry them. This is a tradition started in Ireland.
There are three to choose from and I can hear them here so I will have to wait and do this entry later.

Lyrics:
You're stuck on me and my laughing eyes
I can't pretend though I try to hide
I like you. I like you
I think I felt my heart skip a beat
I'm standing here and I can hardly breathe
You got me, yeah, you got me
The way you take my hand is just so sweet
And that crooked smile of yours
It knocks me off my feet
Oh, I just can't get enough
How much do I need to fill me up
It feels so good, it must be love
It's everything that I've been dreaming of
I give up, I give in, I let go
Let's begin
Cause no matter what I do,
Oh (oh)
My heart is filled with you
I can't imagine what it'd be like
Livin' each day in this life
Without you. Without you
One look from you
I know you understand
This mess we're in you know is just so, out of hand.
Oh, I just can't get enough
How much do I need to fill me up'
It feels so good it must be love
It's everything that I've been dreaming of
I give up. I give in. I let go
Let's begin
Cause no matter what I do
Oh (oh)
My heart is filled with you
I hope we always feel this way
(I know we will)
And in my heart I know you'll always stay
Oh, I just can't get enough
How much do I need to fill me up
It feels so good it must be love
I give up, I give in, I let go, Let's begin
Cause no matter what I do
Oh, I just can't get enough
How much do I need to fill me up'
It feels so good it must be love
(It's everything that I've been dreaming of)
I give up, I give in, I let go
Let's begin
Cause no matter what I do
Oh (oh)
My heart is filled with you
Oh (oh)
You got me, You got me
Oh (oh)
You got me, You got me

Blog City - Day 2063

Many schools have cut funding for art and music programs. Do you think it’s important to bring these electives back, and what are your ideas to get your community involved?

I am lucky to work in the Canadian school system, but we are currently in a strike situation to keep our excellent system. Our Premier, Doug Ford is a bully - a mini Trump, of sorts, who wants to stuff kids into classes like sardines and cut school supports leading to more violent classrooms. Most of the Educational Assistants we have at the Elementary level are there for Behaviour issues, not for academic support.

We still have art and music programs thank goodness! Our music teacher is retiring this year... the school will be feeling his loss. All teachers teach their own art classes.

I am not sports minded... so the idea of cutting art and music programs in favour of sports boils my blood. I know each teach kids about grander things than the basic curriculum... but I believe kids need all these areas. Creativity should be celebrated. Fitness should be cultivated. We should not be sacrificing anything. Not everyone can afford to put there kids in extracurricular programs.

Here is a piece on the 10 reasons for having art and music programs.

This site also has an area where you can even sponsor a child! Now that is cool! It's a Californian idea, but it makes a great deal of sense. The prices look reasonable as well.

Locally, I know our library has instruments you can borrow. There are also programs in place for March Break, but these cost money. There are even programs for PD days. But all of these are few and far between compared to sports programs.

I remember talking to friends who were athletically inclined when I was younger and they found it hard to wrap their head around the idea that they would not have a kid who was just as athletically inclined. One of these was my ex-husband. We did not have children together. One of my worries was that he might not be too open to having a child who was more sensitive like myself and not athletically inclined. Who knows, having children may have softened his ideas, but I worried that that wouldn't happen.

And is it just me, or are there only sports things that have tournaments that start on Fridays... and kids leave school to go participate??? One of the EAs in my class has had her son go to two such tournaments. Do they think these things are so important that they need to miss school? Do they think their kid will make it to the big leagues? I don't think they should be missing school time for something like that.... just saying.

I also have a problem with athletes getting paid exorbitant sums... and writer's get taxed 50% on their earnings... because here in Canada, it is considered a hobby. (I believe it is only 30% in the States.) I'm not sure about artists. That is crazy... and so off topic. Sorry.

I recently saw a little shop in a small village that offers art classes before and after school. It is a quick walk to the school, thus giving kids an opportunity to have an 'extended day' without having to be in a school program... still it costs families to send their kids, but some parents pay to have their kids looked after by someone before and after school anyway. This is just an alternative program.
