Talking Heads
Oh, if these flowers could speak – write a short story or poem about a garden full of flowers having a conversation. (<1000 words)
snowdrops and violets shyly peek out
to sing the snow away. I look for
them as the land edges into green,
a rainbow of new colors.
today, our front lawn was a march
of purple clovers and purpler onions,
shouted on by brash yellow daffodils.
trees chatter in the springtime,
cherry blossoms
bursting out in cacophonous
pinks and whites. as I walk,
I can barely think over the sound
of their excitement—their scents
a shout that winter has failed,
at last.
Can you hear them?
there, at the edge of silence,
a whisper, a murmur of deep beds
and cool waters and sunlight
warming heads so that petals
unfurl to soak in every drop of it.
I follow them, bare toes rooting
into the dark spring mud,
arm outstretched
to catch every drop of sunshine.
