untangle
I had a tangle of thought, ideas
twisted and warped around
like clothes stuck in a drier door,
or yarn caught in a cat's games,
knotted and frayed until I
couldn't see the virtue of each
individual thread.
so, I teased the tangle apart
with careful fingers, pulling
and tugging with careful power,
finding an end and tossing it
over my shoulder until I was part
of the tangle, until the loops untwisted
into order, unraveling in my hands
until the thread was clear, rewound.
and then, when my mind was
ready, I took the threads and wove
them, braided them together
and found a poem.
