The Life of Bob
His whole life, Bob was a loser. From early childhood on, he fought against illnesses, got bullied, lost friends, and was ridiculed by girlfriends.
He doubled his last year at high school when his parents divorced, and he couldn’t take it any longer. Depressed and with a bag full of tranquilizers, he began his first year at college. It took him 6 years to graduate and start his first job. By the time he was forty, he was grey, burnt-out, and widowed.
That morning at the coffee stand of the insurance company, there was a buzz going around. Four men at a 1 ½ meter distance from each other were talking.
“Did you hear the story of Bob?”
“Who’s Bob?”
“The manager.”
“You are kidding me, the manager? I never saw him work here.”
“Yes, you did. That bald little man in the grey suit with that ridiculous mustache.”
“That’s Bob?”
“Yep, that’s him, alright.”
“Never figured he was the manager, and I work here almost a year.”
“That’s the tragedy of Bob; nobody recognizes him as the boss.”
“Well, what’s up with him?
“He was working alone in the building last weekend. Apparently, he walked to the 26th floor and jumped.”
“No way. Why?”
“He left a note saying Life was too much for him. He just heard the test results were positive for Corona.”
“He was working here while he was infected?”
“Yes”
“Oh boy, that means we could be infected as well by all the stuff he touched.”
“We have to get tested for Covid-19 too!”
“I am going to work from home this instant.”
“And you don’t have to ask Bob for permission.”
“Bob, who’s Bob?
~
At Heaven’s Gate, Saint Peter opened the door, and with a friendly voice, he said: “We’ve been expecting you, Bob.”
