PROLOGUE to The Multi-Leveled Planet |
PROLOGUE The Multi-Leveled Planet is about four young people who decide to explore a newly opened cave. An earthquake happens, and results in trapping them far beneath the surface of the earth. This is a story of how they survive, face death, overcome new obstacles and find themselves in strange new worlds within a world. The story starts out in a little ranching community outside the outskirts of Phoenix Arizona in the year 2012. A MULTI-LEVELED PLANET (working title only) PROLOGUE Phoenix Arizona 2012 “Here’s Kevin and Shelby, Jason,” April Wilson shouted to her boyfriend inside his parent’s small ranch on the outskirts of Phoenix, Arizona. “It's about time,” Jason came around the corner of the hall leading to his and his younger brother’s bedrooms. His arms were full of sweaters and shirts. He’d been in the middle of packing his clothes for the coming semester at Phoenix U. “Let me do that, Jason,” his mother came into the front room from her after breakfast cleanup, wiping her hands on her apron. “If you kids just have to take off for your last exploring adventure before summer gets here.” “Really Mom? Thanks!” “What time do you think you kids will get back? Dare I hope before dark?” Jason chuckled, “Don’t worry, we’ll be back well before dark.” “Good, wait, I’ve got a lunch packed for you. A couple of drumsticks, I know you love breast better but there is none left from last night.” “That’s fine, Mom, anything is great, uh… is there any of that chocolate cake left over?” She laughed, “I know my son and his sweet tooth. I’ve packed you in a large piece, the last of it. I hid it last night,” she winked at him. “I’ve also added a sandwich, an orange and an apple.” Then, hesitating, she added, “Do you think that’s enough? I have some roast beef in the fridge…” “No,” he shook his head, “I don’t like the feeling of being too full when I’m exploring. I get drowsy,” he chuckled. “What about you kids?” She turned to face the others, now including Kevin and his friend, Shelby. “Do all of you have enough for a nice picnic together?” “We’re fine, Mrs. Walters,” Kevin spoke up with April and Shelby nodding their heads. “Believe me, we are,” Shelby reassured her even more with, “My mother packed enough for two people.” “I guess you want to get going, right?” “Right,” the quartet answered as one. The pretty woman of forty frowned, a hint of worry creased her still unlined face. “I do hope we are done with those worrisome earthquakes. If one happens please come out of the cave at once, will you?” Her blue eyes bored into Jason’s. “Come on, mom,” he nodded as he began gathering his backpack. “That earthquake a few days ago is what opened up this new cave for us, and it wasn’t all that big in the first place. You know there aren't many earthquakes around here. ” “Yes… I know that, but even the thought of you kids being caught inside…” “It won’t happen Mrs. Walters,” Shelby Thompson gave her a hug, “but just in case, we will be sure to get out of there. We Promise.” “Okay,” Martha nodded, forcing away her worry as foolish thoughts and maybe a was a little paranoia, too.. Ten minutes later, the little Toyota truck, packed with four fully stuffed backpacks, and both seats front and back full of boisterous young people, pulled out. They were on their way. |
