I love this entry. I have the same goal - 52 books minimum in a year - and I have had said goal for about a decade now.
The only books we have in common - (that you've listed above) are Atwood's Handmaid's Tale, which is one of my favourite novels, and the Book Thief - an Australian novel, which I didn't like, but hope that you continue to enjoy.
Happy reading!
I LOVE the reset idea, that would work very well. Oh crap, did I say that out loud ? RESET
I think the Next Level cheat sounds dangerously close to that movie "Click" where it could be a bad thing if you use it too much and you'd miss some random accidental important things that you don't realize happen while something boring is actually planned. In the middle of that boring meeting, you get a phone call that your spouse/brother/child was in a car accident, then you're thrust into a situation that you aren't prepared for. I think I'd pass on that one.
So many great choices! I think I'd probably choose Save Scumming unless I could only do it once a day. If I had to either choose to relive the whole day or not (like you mentioned) that could be a grueling experience. But if I could "save" my life right before a particular situation and then "reload" if it goes wrong, that'd be amazing. Asking the boss for a raise and it doesn't go well? Reset! Your regular commute is clogged with traffic? Reset! Wish you hadn't eaten that double chili burger with extra onion rings and hot sauce? Reset! Heck, I'd even use it to get my aggression out. Let me tell you what I really think of you! Then... RESET!
The control freak in me would be tempted to pick Debug Mode, but the OCD freak in me thinks I would probably lose my mind trying to perfect everything. The world is flawed in so many ways, I think I'd spend my every waking moment tweaking all the little injustices I see every day.
While we're on the topic of old-school video game cheats, what about the "next level" cheat where you enter in a code or a password and can skip the level you're on, automatically jumping to the next? That'd be great for boring meetings, visits with in laws, traffic, or sitting through your significant other's fascination with The Real Housewives. Just "next level" and you're already past the obstacle and onto the next thing!
This is a really kick-ass thought. Big-head mode? That would be a little frightening on some people. Mainly because their head is big enough already! I suppose I'd choose Save Scumming because there are days when you just need a do-over. Great post!
I just stumbled upon this entry when I saw your blog was updated (with the entry above) curiosity made me search this imbecile out and see what he could have possibly meant by such a ludicrous statement. I read this article and understood he was talking about pregnancy resulting from rape. However, he's still a creeper in my book. It's not rare and his views punish the rape victim over and over again by forcing them to carry a baby created from a rape. It's just wrong and it shows his ignorance for his stance AND his statements (IMO).
He cant apologize really. If had any comprehension how bad what he said was, he would never have said it. To me it shows that hasn't any real respect for women.
Sacre Bleu sounds like a fun book. From the reviews on Amazon, it sounds like it isn't the best one for a new fan to start out with - do you agree? I'd like to read something from him, maybe I should begin with a different book? Sacre Bleu sounds really interesting though I must admit. Let me know what you think :)
