this is after all, your future.
A reading at the dark of the moon is best,
before the night creatures crawl
and bad humours fill the air.
Pick a circular deck, with a fairy-tale motif,
and no reversals.
Hold a question in your heart,
shuffle the cards and place them on the table.
Choose only two.
Like the ancient Israelites,
these are your seer stones, Urim and Thumimm,
black and white, yes or no.
Isn't that all you were asking?

At Seventy-Two

I have no further goals I wish to achieve,
at sea-level I am aging more slowly.
This is not like nihilism I believe
but a veneration of all things lowly.
Trapped in this aging body I will not grieve
and celebrate my life for it is holy.
Sonatas I'll play till all tears be released,
salt waters untrap our feared, loathsome beasts.
Corals, stars, flowers coming to fruition,
I have escaped by my death of ambition.
I believe dreams do love us to completion.
