I pull a card...if it doesn't speak to me...perhaps it was meant for you? How to Read the Tarot Begin by brewing a cup of tea, a nervine, lemon balm or chamomile, this is after all, your future. A reading at the dark of the moon is best, before the night creatures crawl and bad humours fill the air. Pick a circular deck, with a fairy-tale motif, and no reversals. Hold a question in your heart, shuffle the cards and place them on the table. Choose only two. Like the ancient Israelites, these are your seer stones, Urim and Thumimm, black and white, yes or no. Isn't that all you were asking? |
Rot I am not the walrus but I am the pumpkin left to rot in the ground. Perhaps the maggots will come to devour and eat me creating good compost. Perhaps my seeds will sprout and become volunteers to make magickal pies. Finally, this seeker will resonate with earth and become a relic. The Herbal Tarot--8 of Swords---Black Cohosh---Wait and trust. Prompt:: Pumpkin Form---a hafnium--periodic element 72---my poem contains 12 lines of 6 syllables =72 syllables. Alleyways I grew up in a row house with alleys in the backyards connecting houses We used the alleyways for hide n seek, they were always full of children's laughter. They have alleys in Palestine, do the children still play hide n seek? Does the bougainvillea still climb to the sky, are all the alleyways char and ash? In Gaza do the veiled women gather in alleyways to keen and grieve? Are their cries muffled by the sounds of war? Is the only noise in the alleyway silence? 14 lines Haindl Tarot--16--The Tower--Death and destruction |
Ecology not Theology I woke up happy for no reason today sensing the eye of every species on me. Embraced by a community of beings our dialogue expands, deepens, nourishes. I hold space for forest, leaf, fox, bear, eagle and take plants to my brow, they speak in pictures. There is a place for every language but mine. Mushrooms deliquesce to black inky liquid as galaxies implode, arise, and shapeshift. Something lurks beyond grammar, beyond logic. My dreams are happy for no reason tonight. 11 lines form: Hendecasyllabic Pholarchos Tarot--20 Judgement--ecology not theology |
Legacy Real witches always live at the edge of town, my great great Granny had written down for the non magickal you must confound. You must always have chocolate around for it shall erase anyone's frown. Keep a kitty, orange, black and brown one that speaks to you without a sound. When you bake muffins, add spices you've ground and you will become a witch of renown. Great Grammy Jo's spirit is now unbound. Imagine There is a portal to a world that exists only in my imagination. There is no Hamas, no Hezballah, no Mosad, no armies anywhere. All borders are open. People flow freely to all lands. We all live in the mucky middle. No language has a word for hostage, only one for prisoners of joy. There is no capitalism, patriarchy, sexism, ableism. We love who we love without fear of veiled threats. No books are banned. All grief is shared, wrapped in the arms of our neighbors. I carry gumdrops and stardust in my pockets. I imagine the world will live as one. Prompt--image of an old, ornate door 18 lines Dark Goddess Tarot--5 of Water--La Llorona--Let loose the river of your tears |
Faith I believe in Our Lady of Ash, and all the Black Madonnas known and unknown. I believe in Marian apparitions sublime and ridiculous. When I wake at 2:22 AM I know it is Divine Mother inviting me to explore darkness. I pay homage to icons, ancient and modern. I pray with rosaries of plastic beads, Job's tears seeds, and pearls, an umbilical cord tethering me to Earth. I am an optimist, but I worry a lot. I do not tell my grandchildren this. 16 lines Prompt: Faith Dark Goddess Tarot--0-The Fool--Sheela Na Gig--Dare to come back to where you began. |
