I pull a card...if it doesn't speak to me...perhaps it was meant for you? How to Read the Tarot Begin by brewing a cup of tea, a nervine, lemon balm or chamomile, this is after all, your future. A reading at the dark of the moon is best, before the night creatures crawl and bad humours fill the air. Pick a circular deck, with a fairy-tale motif, and no reversals. Hold a question in your heart, shuffle the cards and place them on the table. Choose only two. Like the ancient Israelites, these are your seer stones, Urim and Thumimm, black and white, yes or no. Isn't that all you were asking? |
Something to Crow About Crows follow that Old Tyme Religion. Awake at morning's first light barking and breathing a sigh at sunset on Solstice with a gasp at the night's Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn. The cosmos cracks open spilling divine stardust and Earth is pasted with ash and glitter. Black, white, and gray. The crows know. Oracle of the Essences--Jasmine--Finale/Fertility--Don't fight against the tide--let things flow. |
Mother Night In Pagan tradition the night before the Winter Solstice is Mother Night. A night to honor the Great Mother, Mama Earth. And a night to honor all our maternal ancestors. My own mother was mentally ill from the time I was 12 years old---and my connection to her never evolved past that point. .However, when we were younger she would put recitation of the rosary on the radio at night for us to fall asleep with. I have recently returned to praying the rosary as a way of honoring the Great Cosmic Mother. I wish I had been wise enough to pray the rosary with my own mother throughout her life. But tonight I will call her and her mother, and her mother to pray with me tonight on this Mother Night. Oracle of the Essences--Rose--Unconditional Love--I give out love and it is returned to me many fold. |
Holding Ground It has been a lean hard year, but my husband David and I are still holding ground. A local Naples artist, Monsieur Paul Arsenault has created signs for the entrance to our beaches featuring a masked mermaid. I hope it works but Naples is littered with anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers. Sybylla, the veiled mermaid that lives in the retention pond behind our condo approves of the signs. I am lusting for one of these posters. But I am a good citizen, I mask in public, and I don't steal public signs. I wrote a letter to the editor suggesting that Arsenault make these available for sale and donate the proceeds to a local food bank or Covid relief fund. We can all benefit from a bit of whimsy this year. Pholarchos Tarot--8 of Sparks--Help is always at hand--do you recognize it? |
