Caught Between Heaven and Hell

That is the truth about war; those who think that the inevitable will never happen again, won’t see it coming.

The story of two girls with the same birthday from two completely different circumstances. Maria, a German girl with a Jewish background, living in a small country town. Taken by the Nazis on the day of her birthday. Amelie (English pronunciation of ‘Amelia’) is moving to a country town to get away from the war times in the cities of Germany. They have nothing in common and come from different sides of the lives lived in wartime, except for the fact that they have the very same birthday. December 27.

This fictional story is set in the midst of World War II, when Hitler was ruling Germany and these two fourteen year old girls are innocent parties who witness the horrors in the concentration and extermination camps that were running secretly under every German citizen’s nose. 

“There was the rusty sound of the opening of a hatch from above. I heard nothing but the beginning of horrible screams and banging on the walls. Loud screams which horrified me. Babies crying. Screams of agony. Screams of searing pain, amplified to the point of my ears hurting. Then it begun to fade. I heard people fall. Bodies dropping to the ground.” – Chapter 7.
