where my headspace may or may not be at any given time.... |
aha, it's here, i finally got round to having a blog. why? you ask. well.... um.. i don't know. 'cos it's trendy, and i'm a sheep following along with all the other sheep, like some poor fool that can't be bothered thinking for themselves??? no, that's not strictly true. (i know, it is getting to be a trend follower type of thing, but no) i guess it's a combination of factors. 1) i'm still trying to work up the courage to put my real writing up on the site where real people might see my work 2) i really need to do something on WDC than just be nosy at other people's work (although the standard here is not helping me much with number1) 3) i'm giving myself a reason to write every day (this is obviously the most important one) so... i'll be back.. tomorrow |
just found out a friend died overnight. shocked. no news atm |
eeerrrkk!!! finally got something else up on the site. my book, that i've been trying to get onto paper for years. i started!! and super busy at work. grrr christmas. so looking forward to more time to have a life!! |
aaaarrrghh!!! working in a bakery at christams time!!! if i see another christmas cake or christmas pudding, i'm going to scream! and i am so over lamingtons. had to dip 50 of the flipping things today. plus phone suppliers to ask why certain lines have been altered without telling us, complain about unusable stock being delivered... it's the silly season alright!! bah, humbug! |
ahhhh... another day nearly done :) and i've been teaching myself (with some help from the man in my life) how to do a bit of chainsaw carving... step one.. find a chunk of wood. i'musing pine from my stepfather's farm. darned handy that horrible wind that went through a month ago tipping trees up all over the show. my man is gettting stuck into his lathe work. step two.. the chainsaw.. my man very kindly bought me (oops, himself) a nice little chainsaw just a week ago :) step three.. SAFETY GEAR. do not coontinue past this step if you do not have the gear. a chainsaw will take a leg off. and if it kicks in just the right spot, it will come back through your face. also, the saw will spit lots of chips straight into your face. instead of safety glasses that won't stay on over my glasses, i've found a mesh safety visor/faceplate arrangement that is great. earmuffs - i've had forever. new work gloves!! could have done without them, but i love them :) step four... decide on your design, debark your log, and figure out the safest way to start shaping your log. i don't have a proper carving tip for my saw (oops, my man's saw) so i'm taking extra care with this. i don't want to have a kickback step five... after design is roughed out, go back and tidy up a little bit. i always leave a bit extra on as i figure i'd rather go back than redo my design because i took too much off step six.. sanding.. as i mentioned at the start, i'm a learner, and loving it. with all my crafts, i double check all the info i can. there are plenty of good websites about for this topic. i like the chainsaw chick, but you'llfind your own way :) take care |
ok, i just found that my blog opens up for a quick entyr when hovering over the words my blog at the top of the page. Very handy :) still gettting the hang of this blog idea. errrm back later :) |
and back to the blogging (me being the blogger) first thing i want to comment on is that any american(s) viewing this page are going to take a second look at my date format. in my country it is not just acceptable, but expected!! that we give our date as day, then month, then year.. right, that's the boring bit out of the way... newsli! attempting creativity in a fun way!! toolittle spontaneity can be stifling.. gotta go,just got invited to go practise woodturning.. inthe words of the immortal arnie... 'i'll be back' |
