Gratitude breaks the spell of Writers Block |
Staring at a blank page is like staring into a snowfield. The snow, untouched by civilization and unmarked by living creatures, blinds you for a few minutes, it glistens reflecting subtle shades of pure white and rainbows at odd angles. If you stare at the snow too long, you get lost in the interplay of light and shadow. As the day wears on, you become awestruck at the beauty of the snow's perfection. You marvel at the way an oak tree cast its ebony shadow across the pure white snow. You watch the tree's shadow change, grow and shrink, as Earth turns and the sun moves from morning to evening. If you stand out in the snow too long without moving, you risk snow bite or freezing. If you are fortunate, a red fox will walk across your line of sight. The fox will leave his footprints written in the snowfield. As you watch the fox move, the spell holding you in one spot staring at the snow is broken. You are free to go inside out of the cold and out of danger. I must say, writing 500 words a day isn't difficult, unless I'm attempting to write on a single subject. I am thankful for the awardcon I received for "Driving out Darkness" . I am thankful that I won first place in "The Writer's Cramp" for "Driving out Darkness" . I am thankful that my poem "Epistle to Cupid" was featured in "Comedy Newsletter (January 18, 2023)" . |
Isijlál (Majesty), 13 S͟haraf (Honour) 179 B.E. - Thursday, January 12, 2023 On the second Thankful Thursday in 2023, I am grateful for the awardicon I received for the Grand Prize in Journalistic Intentions. And the merit badge I received, on 1/11/23, for my winning Holiday Handle in the Witches Garden. I am thankful that the second week of January 2023, began on a good note. I was able to attend the Feast of Sharaf (Honor) at the Baha'i Center in Las Vegas on Sunday, January 8. Met a couple I hadn't seem in several years. I also met a lady who I had only seen on Zoom. It was a wonderful feast and I hope to attend the next feast later this month. I am also thankful that my poem "Fountain of Youth" was featured in "Fantasy Newsletter (January 11, 2023)" . It has been a while since I wrote the poem, so, of course, I had to go back and reread it. I am thankful that my neither my Bank of America checking account nor saving account are overdrawn today. I am thankful for the chocolate covered mini doughnuts and the orange I had with my morning coffee. |
