Gratitude breaks the spell of Writers Block |
Staring at a blank page is like staring into a snowfield. The snow, untouched by civilization and unmarked by living creatures, blinds you for a few minutes, it glistens reflecting subtle shades of pure white and rainbows at odd angles. If you stare at the snow too long, you get lost in the interplay of light and shadow. As the day wears on, you become awestruck at the beauty of the snow's perfection. You marvel at the way an oak tree cast its ebony shadow across the pure white snow. You watch the tree's shadow change, grow and shrink, as Earth turns and the sun moves from morning to evening. If you stand out in the snow too long without moving, you risk snow bite or freezing. If you are fortunate, a red fox will walk across your line of sight. The fox will leave his footprints written in the snowfield. As you watch the fox move, the spell holding you in one spot staring at the snow is broken. You are free to go inside out of the cold and out of danger. I must say, writing 500 words a day isn't difficult, unless I'm attempting to write on a single subject. On Monday, October 28, 2013, I began posting my weekly goals at "Weekly Goals" ![]() "O SON OF BEING! Istijlál (Majesty), 11 Bahá (Splendour), 174 BE - Thursday, March 30, 2017 CE/b} Muslim refugees aren't the only ones fleeing Iran. The Muslim religion is the one that numerous people follow, but it isn't the only religion in that country. There are minority religions such as Baha'is, Christians and Jews just to name a few. It never ceases to amaze me that just because refuge is from Iran people assume that he or she is a Muslim which isn't always true. One of the Baha'i refugees who fled Iran is Hasel Afshar who lives in Organ. Jamál (Beauty), 7 Bahá (Splendour), 174 BE - Sunday, March 26, 2017 CE It's the last Sunday in March and I have enough coffee to last the rest of the month if I'm careful. I'm expecting $10.00 to hit my checking account in the next few days. I have an appointment on Monday to have my toenails cut by a podiatrist which will cost me a $10.00 co-pay. Having a podiatrist do it is cheaper then having a pedicure. I'll have to take a bus to the podiatrist office and back home which is another $6.00. I've placed everything in God's hands because I can't worry about this. If I worry I'll bring my blood pressure up. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Jalál (Glory), 6 Bahá (Splendour), 174 BE - Saturday, March 25, 2017 CE This morning I ask Baha'u'llah to help me get enough points in my Opinion Outpost account so that I could transfer $10.00 to my PayPal account. My prayer was answered almost immediately. I transferred the money to my PayPal and then transferred it to my checking account. The money should hit my checking either Sunday or Monday. At least I hope it does because I need it to pay the co-pay to the podiatrist who is trimming my toe nails Monday afternoon. Now all I need to to get the $6.00 for the Paratransit to take me to and from the doctor's office. Submitted to "Poetry Newsletter (March 22, 2017)" ![]()
![]() I read an essay on reviewing. It explained how one author does reviews. I haven't been happy with the way I review. The new review template for 2017 is takes care of some of the issues I have with my technique, but not all of them. Istijlál (Majesty), 4 Bahá (Splendour), 174 BE - Thursday, March 23, 2017 CE I know that I must have something to be thankful for. I written gratitude list and it's always the same things on the list. I don't know how I'm going to make ends meet, but I know I'll manage to do it somehow. I'm doing my best to get money coming in so that I don't have to depend on my sister. It's just that it takes so long to get a response from the government. I don't know what they're going to say. The only thing I can do is pray, hope for the best, and write my frustrations out. Kamál (Perfection), 1 Bahá (Splendour), 174 BE - Monday, March 20, 2017 CE This year Naw-Ruz coincides with the International Day of Happiness. This is appropriate because Naw-Ruz is a celebration of happiness. It falls on the Vernal Equinox the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere. Baha'i all over Earth celebrate the year's new beginning with parties and prayer. Even if you are the only Baha'i in a town or are unable to get to a party you can still celebrate and say the Naw-Ruz prayer. For Baha'is Naw-Ruz represents the "Day of God" and it serves to remind Baha'is that all the divine messengers were sent by the same Divine Essence (God) to awaken soul withing the individual human. Baha'u'llah is the latest messenger in a long line of divine messengers who reflected the attributes of God to humanity. "The peoples of the world, of whatever race or religion, derive their inspiration from one heavenly Source, and are the subjects of one God." Bahá'u'lláh 1The Baha'i Faith begin 174 years ago in Persia (Iran) when a young merchant, Siyyid Ali Muhammad, declared he had a new message from God. Known by the title The Bab (The Gate) he brought teaching about the emancipation of women, as well as other teachings. He proclaimed he had come to prepare the way for “He whom God shall make manifest" who was the one promised by all religions.2 The Bab3 was executed in 1850. In 1852, God gave Baha'u'llah his revelation. Baha'u'llah was eventually sent into exil. In 1863, Baha'u'llah publicly declared his mission in a garden outside of Baghdad. Baha'u'llah4 eventually ended up in the prison city of Akka in what is now Israel. Footnotes |
Jamál (Beauty), 19 ‘Alá’ (Loftiness), 173 BE - Sunday, March 19, 2017 CE About My Mother ![]() Today, March 19, 2017, would have been my mother's 96th birthday. Mama was born on March 19, 1921 on a farm somewhere in northern Oklahoma. She was the only daughter of Mary Pearl Chaplin Newland and Frank Spence Newland. Mama was raised a Southern Baptist and, while in Blackwell, Oklahoma, attended the First Southern Baptist church or the First Southern Baptist Mission located in the Smelter Heights in Blackwell. Because of divorce she was a single mother of four children and raised them on a waitress salary (which was below minimum wage at the time). Sometime in middle to late part of the twentieth century, Mom moved, with the rest of us, moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. It was in Las Vegas that she heard about Baha'u'llah and declared her belief in Him. For many years Mom worked at the Showboat Hotel Casino of Boulder Highway. She worked in the coffee shop and in the employees dinning room until the place closed. It was, also, in Las Vegas that Mom begin to write poetry. She passed into the Abha Kingdom on Thursday, February 29, 2012.

Fiḍál (Grace), 14 ‘Alá’ (Loftiness), 173 BE - Tuesday, March 14, 2017 CE The internet is slow, I'm having trouble accessing some websites because I get a timed out error. I'm not sure what's going on so I'm waiting on the phone to Cox. I suspect there could be some type of problem because all the reps are busy with other customers. There is definitely something going on because I attempted to log into my Cox inbox and the connection timed out again. I know I shouldn't complain because I still have a connection to writing.com, but I don't know why the Cox website gives me a time out when I attempt to check my e-mail. I also had the same issue when I was doing surveys on the Inbox Dollars website. The surveys would timeout before I even got into the survey. This morning I responded to two blog prompts in "Melting Snow" ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Update on the Internet issue. I talk to a Cox internet tech who said there was some sort of issues causing part of the internet to go down. She said just to keep working on those sites I can access and the rest would be up about 9:00 PM tonight. That's fine with me because I don't have to access my Cox inbox or for that matter do any more surveys today. The surveys I didn't get done today I'll attempt to do tomorrow between reviews. Wednesday is the Ides of March which is scheduled for Port Raids. I'll focus on the Port Raids while checking a couple of three survey websites. I'd just as soon not have any more surveys time out on me. I don't mind the Inbox Dollars surveys timing out because as long as I attempt them I'll get spin credit which means I might ear a few cents on some of the spins. |
Jamál (Beauty), 12 ‘Alá’ (Loftiness), 173 BE - Sunday, March 12, 2017 CE Sunday Morning It's the first day of daylight savings time 2017 so I suspect it will be a long day. I woke up about 7:30 AM, but didn't get any of my meds taken until about 7:50 AM. I took the two meds I'm supposed to take on an empty stomach. I don't think I should have taken them as close together as I did; however, it's too late now to undo it or worry about it. I took my walk this morning before I had coffee, put my teeth in or ate my breakfast. When I take my walk on Monday I'll have to put my teeth in before I leave the house. I talked to Connie this morning. She's doing alright under the circumstances, however, I don't think she's fully recovered from finding her friend murdered last year. Connie's friend was another hooker who was murdered and mutilated by a "trick". This proves just how difficult it is difficult for women to survive in a man's world. The majority of "girls" on the street wouldn't be doing that if they had a choice or felt they had a choice. True some of them do it for the drugs, but not all of them. Unless you've spoken to the "girls" working the streets you don't understand them and even then it's sometimes difficult to understand; however, ignoring them or the issues that are causing them to work the streets isn't going to change anything. Sunday Afternoon I seem to be doing fine today. So far I'm still wide awake, which is somewhat unusual on the first day of Daylight Savings Time. My time sense isn't a screwed up as usual, but then this is only the first day and I don't have to be any where until Monday, March 27. That's the day I'm going to a podiatrist to get my toe nails cut. It's too difficult for me to cut them myself, which means that every couple of years or so (whenever they begin to bother me) I have to have a professional cut them. Probably better then me doing it myself. Tomorrow is Monday and I have to figure out what goals I need to post to "Weekly Goals" ![]() Goals for the Week of March 13-17, 2017 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Jalál (Glory), 11 ‘Alá’ (Loftiness), 173 BE - Saturday, March 11, 2017 CE This morning I responded to only one of the Blog Prompts in "Melting Snow" GPs = 3,936,934 Premium Plus = 4,199,500 GPs Needed = 262,566 Premium Membership Expires on May 30,2017 I received my Municipal Primary Election Sample Ballot today. There are only two city offices to vote on and both are for municipal court judges. Early voting is Saturday, March 18 to Friday, March 31 while the general election is Tuesday, April 4. This being a municipal election, I'm not sure about what the turn out will be. I know I'm not going to work the general election or the early voting. I haven't be asked, but if someone does call or e-mail me with a request, I'm turning it down. I just don't feel like spending an entire day at the election poles this year. Baha'i Words Quotation for March 11, 2017 "It is permitted that the peoples and kindreds of the world associate with one another with joy and radiance. O People! Consort with the followers of all religions in a spirit of friendliness and fellowship. Thus hath the day-star of His sanction and authority shone forth above the horizon of the decree of God, the Lord of the worlds." Bahá’u’lláh I wonder how good a job I do at expressing this scripture in my life. I suppose I need to stop worrying about that and just do the best I can. A New Year is coming up. March 20 is Naw-Ruz and the first day of the 174 BE. I feel that I need to do something different at the beginning of this New Year. Perhaps I should write a Dear Me letter in this journal or in one of my blogs. I'll have to think about that. I'm also starting a new poetry journal for poems celebrating the bicentennial. I hope to use that journal for poems about the bicentennial of The Bab's birth which is two years from now. Footnotes |
Istijlál (Majesty), 9 ‘Alá’ (Loftiness), 173 BE - Thursday, March 9, 2017 CE I am thankful for the writng.com newsletter they generate ideas. For Baha'is the nineteen-day fast occurs during ‘Alá’ (Loftiness). These are the days after Ayyám-i-Há (February 25-28 or 29) before naw-Ruz, which occurs on the vernal equinox (March 19 or 20). During these days Baha'i between the ages of 15 and 70 fast from sunup to sundown. Fasting is obligatory and intended to bring a person closer to God. Those who are ill, pregnant or nursing and performing hard labor are exempt. One of the silly things that inspired one my stories was November 9, 2009 Mother Goose and Grim comic. The characters were discussing parallel universes. That gave me an idea for a story about missing spoons.

Kamál (Perfection), 6 ‘Alá’ (Loftiness), 173 BE - Monday, March 6, 2017 CE begin about 10:35 AM Pacific Standard Time ** Image ID #2108429 Unavailable ** It's Monday again. It's time to establish my goals for this week. I don't establish these goals on Sunday for the same reason I avoid doing reviews on Sunday. I always think of Sunday as catch up day, which usually means doing nothing except writing, reviewing and whatever it was I didn't finish the week before. I usually do a good job with the writing and review, but catching up is a different story. Since I have a lot to do this week I need to get started. Jamál (Beauty), 5 ‘Alá’ (Loftiness), 173 BE - Sunday, March 5, 2017 CE about 10:41 AM Pacific Standard Time It's a windy Sunday in Vegas The wind scared me this morning. There is a sign hanging outside the kitchen window and the wind was blowing so hard that the sign hit against the side of the building. I couldn't figure out what it was until I opened the blinds. The wind has died down a bit, but it's still too windy to walk. My allergies are acting up now and if I take a walk they will be worse. I think I need a tread mill to use on these windy days. Sleepy eyes closing Is is wind or allergies causing me to nod? I did some port housekeeping last night. I put some poem into "Poetry in Motion Poems" ![]() ![]() My fingers don't want to type, don't want to spell the word right. The wind has blown all day. It blew hard enough to take limbs off the palm trees. It also knocked the electricity off once. There is now a high wind warning until 10:00 PM. I think I'll need to put on the flannel nightgown or pjs tonight. In addition I'll have to use the blanket that was just washed. Oh well, we can always wash the blanket again next month. Jalál (Glory), 4 ‘Alá’ (Loftiness), 173 BE - Friday, March 3, 2017 CE about 5:59 PM Pacific Standard Time I found another poetry form I want to try. The Pathya Vat7 is an oriental form from Cambodia. A Pathya Vat stanza is composed of four lines with four syllables each. If the poem has a single stanza then the rhyme is on the two middle lines, 4.a.a.4, but if it has more then one stanza then the first stanza rhymes, 1.a.a.b, while the second rhymes 4.b.b.c and so on for as many stanzas as the poet chooses. I'm contemplating a poem about the Nineteen-Day Fast using this form. Another form I want to attempt is one created by David Marshall. This form, the Haiku Sonnet8, combines the sonnet with the haiku. It is composed of fourteen lines in five stanzas. The first four stanzas contain three lines each with a syllable count of 5/7/5 and the final stanza is a couplet with a syllable count of seven and/or five syllables. A crown of haiku sonnets is composed of seven haiku sonnets that are linked. The third form I want to try is a cinquain9 which is a five line form of 2/4/6/8/2 syllable. A cinquain chain is a group of linked cinquain stanzas with the first line of the following stanza beginning with last line of the previous stanza. The last stanza in a chain ends with the first line of the first stanza as the last line of the final stanza. In a cinquain swirl the first line becomes the link. There are no stanzas in the cinquain swirl instead the lines are united in one poem following the normal cinquain syllable count. Footnotes |
Istijlál (Majesty), 2 ‘Alá’ (Loftiness), 173 BE - Thursday, March 2, 2017 CE about 3:12 PM Pacific Standard Time ‘Alá’ and March started out good. Yesterday I sent off all the saved reviews for the Dear Me letters and made appointments with two March appointments withe the specialist my doctor wants me to see. I still have one more specialist to make an appoint with, but I can't do that until the doctor sends a referral. I called my sister about a check she was supposed to send; if the check doesn't come tomorrow I'll have to call her again. (Which I'm not looking forward to doing.) I also started working on my edition of the writing.com fantasy newsletter. Today I begin my daily walk, it was supposed to be only ten minutes, however I think it was longer then that. I didn't time myself because I had decided to walk just so far up Sunrise Avenue. I need to look at my phone when I start the walk tomorrow and then again when I reach my planned destination before I turn around and start back to the apartment. I also responded to three blog prompts, wrote two poem for contests and an entry to a campfire I'm participating in. "Invalid Item" ![]() And pink roses blooming releasing love's incense as nightingales serenade at first light. I still have a couple of more items to find for the editors picks in my fantasy newsletter edition. The deadline is Monday, March 20, I don't think I'm going to look for any more today. Instead I think I'll focus on doing something else. Something that doesn't take a lot of physical or mental energy. I'm still tired from my walk, but I don't want to take a nap. If I take a nap this late in the day I won't be able to sleep tonight. I have enough trouble sleeping as it is without doing something that I know will last well into the evening. |
