Gratitude breaks the spell of Writers Block

Staring at a blank page is like staring into a snowfield. The snow, untouched by civilization and unmarked by living creatures, blinds you for a few minutes, it glistens reflecting subtle shades of pure white and rainbows at odd angles. If you stare at the snow too long, you get lost in the interplay of light and shadow.

As the day wears on, you become awestruck at the beauty of the snow's perfection. You marvel at the way an oak tree cast its ebony shadow across the pure white snow. You watch the tree's shadow change, grow and shrink, as Earth turns and the sun moves from morning to evening. If you stand out in the snow too long without moving, you risk snow bite or freezing.

If you are fortunate, a red fox will walk across your line of sight. The fox will leave his footprints written in the snowfield. As you watch the fox move, the spell holding you in one spot staring at the snow is broken. You are free to go inside out of the cold and out of danger.

I must say,
writing 500 words a day
isn't difficult,
unless I'm attempting to write
on a single subject.

On Monday, October 28, 2013, I began posting my weekly goals at "Weekly GoalsOpen in new Window.. On Tuesday, October 29, 2013 I began keeping track of may accomplished goals in this journal.

"O SON OF BEING! Bring thyself to account each day ere thou art summoned to a reckoning;
for death, unheralded, shall come upon thee and thou shalt be called to give account for thy deeds."

'Heinlein's Rules for Writers

         Rule One: You Must Write
Rule Two: Finish What Your Start
Rule Three: You Must Refrain From Rewriting, Except to Editorial Order
Rule Four: You Must Put Your Story on the Market
Rule Five: You Must Keep it on the Market until it has Sold'

Robert A. Heinlein

It is enjoined upon every one of you to engage in some form of occupation, such as crafts, trades and the like. We have graciously exalted your engagement in such work to the rank of worship unto God, the True One. Ponder ye in your hearts the grace and the blessings of God and render thanks unto Him at eventide and at dawn. Waste not your time in idleness and sloth. Occupy yourselves with that which profiteth yourselves and others. Thus hath it been decreed in this Tablet from whose horizon the day-star of wisdom and utterance shineth resplendent.
Baha'u'llah, Tablets of Baha'u'llah Revealed After the Kitab-i-Aqdas, Pages 21-29: gr 32

I changed the way I did entries in this book several times. Beginning on March 21, 2018 the entries will cover the topics of spiritual, inspirational, and religions. However, the genres it will be under are Women's, Inspirational, and Spiritual with a tag of Religious.

"I have risen this morning by Thy grace, O my God, and left my home trusting wholly in Thee, and committing myself to Thy care. Send down, then, upon me, out of the heaven of Thy mercy, a blessing from Thy side, and enable me to return home in safety even as Thou didst enable me to set out under Thy protection with my thoughts fixed steadfastly upon Thee. There is none other God but Thee, the One, the Incomparable, the All-Knowing, the All-Wise."
Bahá’u’lláh1

I don't enjoy doing surveys any more. The last few days, whenever I do a survey, I feel myself getting frustrated even when I qualify for a survey. May I need to take a break and focus on writing rather then on surveys. Just take a day or two off the surveys, I don't know if that will help or not. I could be experiencing survey burnout, and, if that's the case, I'll need to take more then a couple of day off. I'll have to say some prayer about this. Maybe withdraw from a couple of survey groups entirely.

The tranquil mind
silenced
it hears my muse.

Submitted to "Comedy Newsletter (May 31, 2017)Open in new Window.: "Robert, I always look forward to reading your editions of the newsletter. This issue is especially funny, and it's just what I need to brighten my Wednesday morning with laughter."

The problem with breakfast:
nothing rhyme easily with orange,
but coffee compliments it.

Thankful Thursday

"Rid thou thyself of all attachments to aught except God, enrich thyself in God by dispensing with all else besides Him, and recite this prayer:

Say: God sufficeth all things above all things, and nothing in the heavens or in the earth or in whatever lieth between them but God, thy Lord, sufficeth. Verily, He is in Himself the Knower, the Sustainer, the Omnipotent.

Regard not the all-sufficing power of God as an idle fancy. It is that genuine faith which thou cherishest for the Manifestation of God in every Dispensation. It is such faith which sufficeth above all the things that exist on the earth, whereas no created thing on earth besides faith would suffice thee. If thou art not a believer, the Tree of divine Truth would condemn thee to extinction. If thou art a believer, thy faith shall be sufficient for thee above all things that exist on earth, even though thou possess nothing."2

The Bab

This is one of my favorite scriptures. I like the fact that it explains that love of God is love of His Manifestation. In this age the Manifestation of God is Baha'u'llah, but that doesn't preclude love of Christ or any other previous Manifestation because all of them are sent by God. It's just that I need to focus my love on Baha'u'llah and do my best to follow the laws for this age.

03. ...for fresh brewed Folgers black silk coffee for breakfast.

Perhaps I need my head examined, but I'm signed up for "Invalid ItemOpen in new Window.. I need to focus on editing and rewriting "ScavengersOpen in new Window. which means I'll have to cut down on some of my blog entries. I'll cut the entries in Poet999 - A Butterfly Emerges From Her Cocoon3 down to every-other-day. As for the blog prompts from "Blogging Circle of Friends Open in new Window., "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's ParadiseOpen in new Window., and "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUSOpen in new Window., I'll chose one to do each day. The next issue is the surveys, and I'm not sure what I'll do about those because sometimes I enjoy doing them. Perhaps pick out a few to do each day.

Declaration of the Bab

"The understanding of His words and the comprehension of the utterances of the Birds of Heaven are in no wise dependent upon human learning. They depend solely upon purity of heart, chastity of soul, and freedom of spirit."4
Bahá’u’lláh

In the above quote, "the Birds of Heaven" refer to the Manifestations of God5. This quot suggest that it isn't what we learn in school or from a teacher that helps us understand the sacred scriptures, but rather spiritual attributes. In order, to understand the verses revealed by God through His Manifestations we must strive to attain these spiritual characteristics.

"Incline your ears to the words of this unlettered One, wherewith He summoneth you unto God, the Ever-Abiding. Better is this for you than all the treasures of the earth, could ye but comprehend it."6
Bahá’u’lláh

My neighborhood is quite this morning. No one is arguing. I didn't hear gunshots or sirens last night. The day started out on a tranquil note. My next door neighbor hasn't woke up because I haven't heard him making knocking noises this morning. I hope and pray the rest of the day remains calm and tranquil. I know as soon as everyone wakes up there will be some noise, but I hope it won't be arguing or fighting.

I have two activities planned for this week. On Monday, I have to pick up my Senior Commodities and on Thursday I have a 9:00 AM appointment with my doctor. I need a refill on my blood pressure medication, so I have to go into her office for a consult. I don't think I have anything else to do this week, but you never know. Something could come up and I would have to take care of it. The car is working now, which is good because I don't have to call Lyft or Paratransit.

On Saturday, May 13, I begin a 30-day blog project. The plan is to post to Poet999 - A Butterfly Emerges From Her Cocoon  Open in new Window., and I've did a good job of it so far. Today is the 9th day of that project. I don't know if my readership has increased or not because I haven't checked the statistics in approximately seven days. I'll have to do that this evening or tomorrow afternoon because I don't want to take time out of my writing right now. I think after the 30 days are up, I'll plan my blog post a little better and write them the day before I post them.

Midweek Reflections

"Consort with all men, O people of Bahá, in a spirit of friendliness and fellowship. If ye be aware of a certain truth, if ye possess a jewel, of which others are deprived, share it with them in a language of utmost kindliness and good-will. If it be accepted, if it fulfil its purpose, your object is attained. If any one should refuse it, leave him unto himself, and beseech God to guide him. Beware lest ye deal unkindly with him. A kindly tongue is the lodestone of the hearts of men. It is the bread of the spirit, it clotheth the words with meaning, it is the fountain of the light of wisdom and understanding."7

Thankful Thursday

I began this entry yesterday, but didn't get completed. Therefore, I'm combining the Midweek Reflections with the Thankful Thursday entry. I will finish this today, and post my Gratitude List to my offsite blog Poet999 - A Butterfly Emerges From Her Cocoon  Open in new Window., as soon as I finish the list. I've been doing good with my daily post because I have posted each day for the past five days. I want to keep it up, but I think I'll have to plan the post a little better and probably watch the grammar.

Motivational Monday

"Whoso hath searched the depths of the oceans that lie hid within these exalted words, and fathomed their import, can be said to have discovered a glimmer of the unspeakable glory with which this mighty, this sublime, and most holy Revelation hath been endowed."8
Bahá’u’lláh

It's Monday again! It's time to find my writing motivation and post my writing goals for May 15-19 on "Weekly GoalsOpen in new Window.. I've vacillated between the number of goals I've posted for the past few months. Sometimes I post four goals, but other times I post six, seven, or nine goals. Too few goals don't push me to achieve my full potential while too many goals frustrate me when I can't achieve them all. Starting today, I will post five goals each week. If I can accomplish those on a consistent basis then I will add two goals.

Posted to "Weekly GoalsOpen in new Window.

*Box* "Comma Sense Classroom ForumOpen in new Window. finish work.
*Box* Review at least four items each day.
*Box* Post to at least on contest.
*Box* Post one entry to "Melting SnowOpen in new Window. and to my offsite blog each.
*Box* Do housekeeping around my computer desk each day.

This morning I accomplished two things, which weren't on my goals list, but I needed to do. First, I decided on the subject for my June edition of the fantasy newsletter. I will focus on Punk Fiction for June. The deadline for that newsletter is Monday, June 12. Second, I edited my Power Reviewers template for the upcoming Power Raid on May 17. Because of other commitments, I don't know if I'll be able to participate in that raid, but the template is ready in case I'm able to participate.

In order to build readership to my offsite blog I have to do several things. First, I have to answer the question "What is my worldview?". I started that in today's Motivational Monday entry, but I still have a couple of exercises to complete before I completely answer that question. I have to (1) fill in the blanks " Every () can/should ().", and (2) e-mail five friends asking them to describe me. After I finished today's entry, I realized I have to write a disclaimer for that blog because I accept ads that are posted with each new entry. I also have to set up a website with a link to my Poet 999 and writing.com blog.

Today my Credit score is TransUnion 602 and Equifax 609. I have one item from my credit report to check out, but I can't do that until Monday because the place that put it on the report is closed on the weekends. I received the Credit Carma report on Friday, but I didn't read it until today. I have to start reading that report when I receive it.

Notes from the morning blogger class

*BulletV* Key #2: Platform (audience) - The Journalist; The Prophet; The Artist; The Professor; The Star. For the next 30 days blog.
*BulletV* Key #3: Tribe - an e-mail list (this is my tribe); build an e-mail list. Give something exciting free. Send something about twice a week. clicktotweet.com. Give more then you take and serve my tribe by being helpful. create a website and find an e-mail service provider. goinswriter.com/launch-blog and covertkit.
*BulletV* Key #4: Product - Identify my expertise (What's obvious to me?); Ask my audience (How can I better help you? If I created something for sale, what would you buy? How much?); Give them what they want. Do I have an expertise worth sharing?
*BulletV* This key I added myself. Key #5: Act - I need a blog with 1,000 subscribers.

Analysis Paralysis is the over-thinking or over-analyzing of a situation or problem to the point that no action is taken to solve the problem. The solution to analysis paralysis is "set limits", "clarify objectives and priorities", "remind yourself that nothing is perfect", "take small, iterative steps", "change the number of options", "add or remove emotion", "talk about it", and "make the best decision possible".10

"For man two wings are necessary. One wing is physical power and material civilisation; the other is spiritual power and divine civilisation. With one wing only, flight is impossible. Gratitude list for May 11, 2017

Today I am thankful...

01. ...for the scriptures of the Baha'i Faith because reading the Holy Writings drives away depression;
02. ...that we have electricity to this apartment because with it I can brew a carafe of coffee everyday;
03. ...for the Arizona sweet tea I had with my lunch.
04. ...that the Baha'i Words quote for May 11 was about the way Baha'u'llah's revelation came to him. I can use that as the basis for my next entry in "Bicentenary Poems and ProseOpen in new Window..
05. ...for the pleasant weather we have experienced recently in Las Vegas because I have not had to turn the cool air on yet this year.
06. ...that the multi-part blender I sent for last week arrived today.
07. ...for the 16.9 fl. oz. bottles of Niagara water we have in the house because they taste better then the water that comes out of the facet.
08. ...that I had a baked potato for supper with sour cream for supper because it reminded me of the times Mom and I went out for prime rib or steak. Mom always ordered a baked potato with sour cream.
09. ...for that we have an alley to park the car in because on Thursday the street cleaner cleans Sunrise Avenue. If my car is parked in front of the house I will get a $21.00 parking ticket.

Prayer for the Week of May 8-12, 2017

"God, Whom I worship and adore! I bear witness unto Thy unity and Thy oneness, and acknowledge Thy gifts, both in the past and in the present. Thou art the All-Bountiful, the overflowing showers of Whose mercy have rained down upon high and low alike, and the splendors of Whose grace have been shed over both the obedient and the rebellious.

O God of mercy, before Whose door the quintessence of mercy hath bowed down, and round the sanctuary of Whose Cause loving-kindness, in its inmost spirit, hath circled, we beseech Thee, entreating Thine ancient grace, and seeking Thy present favor, that Thou mayest have mercy upon all who are the manifestations of the world of being, and deny them not the outpourings of Thy grace in Thy days.

All are but poor and needy, and Thou, verily, art the All-Possessing, the All-Subduing, the All-Powerful."

Bahá’u’lláh12

I didn't get a lot accomplished today because we spent most of the morning in traffic court. After we left the courthouse we went to CVS on East Charleston and purchased some necessary items. When I came home I called my State Farm agent to see if I could get the monthly payment lowered. I removed the renter's insurance and added De to the policy. The monthly payment is only a few dollars lower, so I think I'll find a cheaper auto insurance company. I also transferred a little over $26.00 from my savings to the checking. I still have to get between $2.00 and $27.00 in the account this week. The surveys aren't helping yet, but maybe some will by the end of the week.

Right now it appears that we'll have to lay out $200.00 to the court because of the tail lights. We laid out that much to get the breaks fixed and I don't know how much it's going to cost for the lights. I've placed everything in God's hands and I begin saying the Table of Ahmad this morning. Things go better when I say or read that tablet everyday. I used to know the Tablet by heart, but I haven't recited it in a while so I'm not sure how much of it I remember. That's all right because I downloaded a Baha'i prayer app to my smartphone, so now I can read that prayer or another any time of the day or night.

"Blogging Circle of Friends Open in new Window. prompt for DAY 1630: May 3, 2017

"Until you make the unconscious conscious,
it will direct your life and you will call it fate."

Carl Jung

Or I Could Use This Quote

"Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves. There is no coming to consciousness without pain. People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own Soul. Everyone carries a Shadow, and the less it is embodied in the individual's conscious life, the blacker and denser it is. When an inner situation is not made conscious, it appears outside as fate."
Carl G. Jung

I discovered both of those on the website Authentic-Self.com  Open in new Window. under the title "Become Your Authentic Self". That article listed five question to ask: (1) Who am I?; (2) Why do I fear being vulnerable?; (3) What does it mean to be authentic?; (4) Why is it such a struggle to just be myself?; and (5) Why do I hide behind a mask of my own making? I think I'll answer these question in "Welcome to My LifeOpen in new Window. over the next 30 or so days.

I didn't enter the official writing.com contest in April because I couldn't think of a mystery plot. I want to enter the "What a Character! : Official WDC ContestOpen in new Window. this month. The May 2017 prompt is "Your character is in a situation where he or she is trying to make a good impression (job interview, speaking at a professional event, in-class presentation, etc.). When a piece of potentially damaging or embarrassing information is brought to light, how does your character handle it?" The deadline is May 31 and the word count limit is 2,000 words (placed at the body of the item).

Twelfth Day of Ridvan

It's the Twelfth Day of Ridvan which means I'm only doing the work I absolutely have to do. This morning we went to the food bank to pick up food. Next we went to the bank to cash the rent check Faye sent, then to Smith's to pick up my meds and purchase a money order for the rent. De took the money order to the rental place and then went shopping. I haven't go the mail yet but I suppose I should check it in a few minutes. I'm expecting something from my Kidney doctor to get a blood test this Friday.

"Weekly GoalsOpen in new Window.
Goal 5/1/17-5/5/17
My goals this week are (1) review, (2) compose blog entries, (3) enter a contest, and (4) do some port housekeeping.

The only other thing I did this morning was download two new apps to my smartphone. One was the Lights of Guidance app and the other a Badi Calender app. I'm not sure whether I'm going to download any more apps to my phone or not. I'll just have to wait and see how much data I use with the apps I have.
