Gratitude breaks the spell of Writers Block |
Staring at a blank page is like staring into a snowfield. The snow, untouched by civilization and unmarked by living creatures, blinds you for a few minutes, it glistens reflecting subtle shades of pure white and rainbows at odd angles. If you stare at the snow too long, you get lost in the interplay of light and shadow. As the day wears on, you become awestruck at the beauty of the snow's perfection. You marvel at the way an oak tree cast its ebony shadow across the pure white snow. You watch the tree's shadow change, grow and shrink, as Earth turns and the sun moves from morning to evening. If you stand out in the snow too long without moving, you risk snow bite or freezing. If you are fortunate, a red fox will walk across your line of sight. The fox will leave his footprints written in the snowfield. As you watch the fox move, the spell holding you in one spot staring at the snow is broken. You are free to go inside out of the cold and out of danger. I must say, writing 500 words a day isn't difficult, unless I'm attempting to write on a single subject. On Monday, October 28, 2013, I began posting my weekly goals at "Weekly Goals" ![]() "O SON OF BEING! Bahá’u’lláh4 Love is the fire that burns the veils of illusion separating humanity. Worry is one form of vain imaginings. When I focus on the sacred scriptures, and prayers revealed by Baha'u'llah my worries are dispelled. If I don't watch myself I worry about things that never happen. ‘Idál (Justice), 3 Asmá’ (Names) 175 B.E. - Wednesday, August 22, 2018 Is Work Worship? "Yes: In the Baha’i Cause arts, sciences and all crafts are (counted as) worship. The man who makes a piece of notepaper to the best of his ability, conscientiously, concentrating all his forces on perfecting it, is giving praise to God. Briefly, all effort and exertion put forth by man from the fullness of his heart is worship, if it is prompted by the highest motives and the will to do service to humanity." This is the answer that 'Abdu'l-Baha gave when someone ask him if prayer could or should take the form of action. In order for work to be consider worship the individual performing the work must concentrate their full attention on the joy. At times, during my work life, I felt that my full attention was focused on what I was doing, and I could consider it worship. Lately, the only time I have felt this way is when I am focused on writing a poem or a flash fiction story. This may be the one of the reasons I am having problems with rewriting my novels, I am not focusing on the job of rewriting. Another time, I feel I am worshiping God is when I concentrate on reviews. I have cut down on the review because I can only concentrate on so many at a time. I usually know when my concentration starts to wan, and I stop review for a while. When this happens I go to something else that I can concentrate on or I stop to say a prayer, take a walk, or meditate. When I opened it, I found she had put an x above her favorite prayer. One of those prayer, on pages 133-35, is also one of my favorites. This beautiful prayer, was revealed by the Bab. Every time I read it, I feel comforted and safe. Another thing I found, was my mother's pink prayer beads. The Bab12 This is one of my favorite quotes from the scriptures revealed by The Bab. The first part of this quote has been running through my mind a lot lately. Perhaps it because the Baha'is of the world will be celebrating the Twin Holy Days13 on November 9 and 10 of this year. Or it could be that the Bicentenary of the Birth of the Bab will be celebrated in 2019, and I am planning on writing two hundred poem dedicated to the Bab in that year. I will meditate more on this subject and see what type of poem I can compose. Istiqlál (Independence), 10 Kamál (Perfection) 175 B.E. - Friday, August 10, 2018 "Intone, O My servant, the verses of God that have been received by thee, as intoned by them who have drawn nigh unto Him, that the sweetness of thy melody may kindle thine own soul, and attract the hearts of all men. Whoso reciteth, in the privacy of his chamber, the verses revealed by God, the scattering angels of the Almighty shall scatter abroad the fragrance of the words uttered by his mouth, and shall cause the heart of every righteous man to throb. Though he may, at first, remain unaware of its effect, yet the virtue of the grace vouchsafed unto him must needs sooner or later exercise its influence upon his soul. Thus have the mysteries of the Revelation of God been decreed by virtue of the Will of Him Who is the Source of power and wisdom." Istijlál (Majesty), 9 Kamál (Perfection) 175 B.E. - Thursday, August 9, 2018 I spent most of the morning dealing with tech support. I called MyGait tech support because I was having trouble loading the browser. It turned out that the problem was the slow speed, so I called Cox and increased the speed. Earlier this year, I decreased the speed because it was cheaper. It was, but it caused more problems so I increased the speed again. I had a feeling when I decreased the speed that was the wrong thing to do. Sometimes it is better to pay the higher price for more speed. Gratitude List for 9 Kamál Today I am thankful... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Today has been an interesting and technology interesting day. After the problem with the internet speed this morning, we encountered a brown out. It lasted only a few seconds, but it resulted in another call to the MyGait tech support. After talking to tech support, they suggested I reboot my wifi modem. I rebooted the modem and everything works fine now. However, I'm probably going to have to reboot the modem every time there is a brown out or a longer power interruption, this means that the other items I have connected to the wifi have to have the password put in again. |
Fourth of July weekends at The Lake. The Lake, I don't know if it had another name, we always called it The Lake. Grandpa had a trailer house on a lot, which included a lower level, a boat dock, and a ramp to put the boat in the water. Fourth of July weekends at The Lake were always fun and exciting. Grandma would fix mustard-mayonnaise potato salad, but cutting up chunks of boiled and peeled potatoes. She mixed onions and spices with the mayonnaise and mustard before mixing it into the chunks of potatoes. Fourth of July weekends at The Lake we always grilled outside on a small barbecue grill. We grilled real beef hot dogs, pork chops, chicken, and some sort of beef. The hot dogs were for us kids, and the other meat was for the adults. We had jello fruit salad for desert. Fourth of July weekends at the Lake meant my brothers would harass the fire ants and the tiny black ants. They put firecrackers in the entrances to the anthill, lit the firecrackers, and back off a couple of feet before the firecrackers went off. It pissed off the ants, which seemed to amuse my brothers. Fourth of July Weekends at The Lake meant fireworks after sunset. Grandpa always drove the car down to the lower level of the lot near the boat dock. He would sit on the hood of the car, light a Roman candle, hold it up, and shoot it off. One year one of the Roman candles backfired. He jumped off the hood of the car, threw the Roman candle at The Lake, and brushed the sparks off his work shirt. Fourth of July weekends at The Lake, spent at Grandpa's trailer house, were always fun and exciting. ‘Idál (Justice), 8 Kamál (Perfection) 175 B.E. - Wednesday, August 8, 2018 All true healing comes from God! There are two caused for sickness, one is material, the other spiritual. If the sickness is of the body, a material remedy is needed, if of the soul, a spiritual remedy. If the heavenly benediction be upon us while we are being healed then only can we be made whole, for medicine is but the outward an visible means through which we obtain the heavenly healing. Unless the spirit be healed, the cure of the body is worth nothing. All is in the hands of God, and without Him there can be no health in us! That's what we called the mobile home that was used each summer when we went to the lake. It wasn't very large just one bedroom, a bathroom, with a toilet and shower (which didn't work). When we needed to go to the toilet we used the wooden outhouse above the a pit in the ground. Every summer we spent holiday weekends and Grandpa's vacation there. There weren't very many summer holidays to celebrate. There was the fourth of July, and we set off fireworks there (unless we went to Lake Carl Blackwell with my cousins). The Fourth of July weekend at the Lake (I only remember the years when the fourth of July feel on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday). The Fourth of July weekend was fun and sometimes scary. We set off firecracker, usually down by the lake or boat dock, and not near the trailer house. My brothers would put firecrackers in the entrances to ant hills and scare the poor ants. I remember Grandpa driving the car down the hill to where the boat dock was located. He would sit on the hood of the car, hold Roman candles in his hands and shoot them off. One year one of the Roman candles backfired. I remember Grandpa jumping away from the car and brushing the sparks from his work shirt. Grandma always made potato salad with mustard and mayonnaise. In the kitchen of the trailer house is where I learned hows to cook biscuits in a frying pan. That is an interesting procedure, but the bottom of the biscuits burned, so we could only eat the top part that wasn't burned. The oven of the stove didn't work for some reason. Maybe it wasn't connected to the type of gas, or whatever Grandpa used to heat the burners on the stove. Thinking back I wonder how we ever came out alive and all in one piece. No one ever got badly hurt at the lake. We only had life threatening accidents when we went to Lake Carl Blackwell. Facebook Status Update The count down begins 138 days until my birthday!
