On the Porch with Pat

Welcome to my porch! Come on up and sit down with me a while. You can join me in the swing or have a seat in one of the rockers. There's lemonade and Granny's Tea Cakes on the little round table by the screen door. Pour yourself a glass, take some tea cakes, and let's visit awhile.

I've reached that stage of life where I reminisce a lot about my childhood and young adult years. Some of my best memories are of the porch swing at the little house my dad and his brother built with their own hands about five children before me. We moved from that house when I was twelve, but there were other swings and other porches to enjoy. I've been encouraged to create a daily journal--I guess it's all the rage these days. Goodness knows, I do love to talk, so I guess this might be a good thing. I can't tell you just what you may find here on any given day. You know how it is when you're on the porch. A lot depends on the weather. I can tell you this. I plan for it to be a fun place to visit, because I'm in the mood for some fun!

I like the post and the comment. They work well together. my spirit can feel the happiness and uplifting from the words you two have shared. There's a saying, "it takes a village to raise a child." This tells me that it takes a community to uplift and bring happiness to a person (people). Hugs to you.

It's good to know about your progress and success in goal setting. I'm glad things have changed for the better for you. Yes, my friend, I understand what you're writing about. Life experiences have taught me that the only person you can change is yourself. Your view of life is also important, great that it is uplifting for you. Letting go can be a freedom for you and your husband. It will help relieve some of the challenges you have each day and may help him be able to have a more full and successful life.

My spirit is uplifted because you shared about the uplifting of your spirit. I thank you for this gift. Please keep me posted and how you, your husband, and everything is going?

Thanks so much! I totally love this idea. Personally, I should write these and read them for myself every day as well as for my husband. What an awesome way to start the day. Thanks for sharing this inspirational tool with me.

my example of this would be when my son was quite ill and he was set into a great depression. Everyday I would write him a letter and leave it for him by morning. Telling him how important he is and how proud of him I am.
This is one I wrote

This week please read every day

day 1) pat yourself on the back because you deserve it
day 2) be kind to yourself today you don't need to burden the worlds issues

day 3) do one inspirational thing for yourself
day 4) write a letter to yourself and only put good attributes
day 5) remember the world is a big place and we all have a purpose big or small. Your purpose is great.
day 6) Feelings are okay. It is okay to be upset or sad it is also okay to wear a smile even if it is about a small thought
day 7) The shines on every soul and it is up to you to keep the light lit. Take a look in the mirror and notice what a blessing you are to all of us.

He liked it so much he asked me to never stop, so even now I write him seven positive ways to think. One for each day of the week.

I was 13 when the Beatles were on Sullivan. The Beatles were that something extra. If I had to pick one piece of music, one group and attach the words life changing to it, for me it would be Simon and Garfunkel and the song would be Sounds of Silence.

Sometimes you read the right thing just when you need it. This is how I feel about your entry. I have a current issue I need to deal with, not that different from yours, though not to the extent. ( I may email you about it at sometime). Your blog entry was just what I needed to read today, thank you for sharing!

I guess you're in difficult situation, I don't understand how you feel because I've never been through the SAME thing as you're going now. And I think that no man in the world can understand something what he never been through. However, I think that all suffers on the Earth have one common thing and that is PAIN. In order to heal yourself and the one around you, you just have to accept that it's the way it has to be and if you believe in God, you have to understand that it's all His will. No matter what happen to you, or to your love ones we all have to move forward and don't think about what could go wrong and why all that happening to us, or why we deserved such a thing. Only God knows why all this happening and if you find strength and will to understand His reasons then you'll be more happy and like that people around you will be happy, too. So, I agree when you said that you're looking your husband from his perspective, you may not understand completely how he feels but you'll realize other things, such as ability to look at life with different eyes, and that is, I can say, very important gift what you can give him in these moments.

Said a girl who is stubborn, yet unselfish when it comes about other people's feelings and needs.

Pat,

I too struggle with severe RA which leaves me bedridden much of the time so I completely understand needing to do things in small chunks to get anything at all accomplished. Then add the lack of motivation that the depression causes and yes, things quickly get out of control in our homes. I don't know if you have heard of fly lady at all but if you haven't perhaps this will help you to achieve your goal http://www.flylady.net/
