I'm glad to help in any way I can! I'm the complete opposite of you; I can NOT clear my mind at all, but I can stay focused on things very easily. I've had someone walk me through it, though, which is why it's easy to me. A teacher at my school has done it with my class a few times, so it's easier for me because of that.
Once you have a set thing you want to see in your head, though, it's really easy and EXTREMELY relaxing. Just pick a peaceful place to go, like I did, and just have it be about you seeing things; not about saying things or talking to people.

Hi, Maddy! I'm just going around checking out everyone's dream/meditation journals. You totally inspire me to want to meditate! I'm suspiciously good at clearing my mind (sometimes it makes me feel like there isn't actually a whole lot going on in there...which makes me feel dumb! ), but I'm not so great at staying focused on one image or series of images like you are in your meditation, so I definitely want to try that. It takes a lot of creativity. Anyway, wonderful description of your peaceful imaginary spot :)
Yes, our heads get very cluttered at times, which is exactly the reason for meditation. I know it is hard, but that is the only way you can grow and improve.
We have to think of dreaming and meditation as two halves of the same coin. They are opposites, but must be used together to obtain a common goal, which in this case is control of our minds.
I've never thought about just clearing my head, but I'll definitely try it. I probably won't do it till Friday or so, but when I do, I'll tell you how it goes!
I know, at night when I'm trying to sleep, I often try to clear my mind, but that honestly only lasts for a few minutes. I feel like my thoughts are just pressuring my head to let them in, and I just, eventually, let them. It's too much work for me to keep my head clear sometimes, and I even have to go cross-eyed to keep my thoughts out. My head is very loud, especially when I don't want it to be! ;D
But, like I said, I'll definitely try it out and get back to you on how it went!
I know there are many ways to meditate, but I often hear that the goal is to clear your mind completely. The reason for this, and the reason it is so important to meditate while learning to control the dream world, is because meditation will become the time your brain takes to center itself. Normally, sleep is when your brain does this. However, lucid dreaming is an exhausting exercise in itself and the brain is unable to rest while lucid dreaming. This is why meditation is vital for a healthy journey into the realm of lucid dreaming.
I am super glad that your way of creating a scene in your mind as a personal place to retreat to is relaxing to you, but just for fun, try to meditate such that you aren't thinking about anything. If only for one try, just to see what it is like. Clear your mind, and attempt to think about nothing. Let me know if you will try this, and how it is different from your current method of meditation.
What was your overarching feeling as you were running? Running in dreams can mean many things: you could be running from something, to something, with someone, to save someone. The feelings you have while running are important to include in your dream log so when you look back on the dream, you can relive it.
That I think is one of the major benefits of keeping a dream log. You must have sufficient detail so that you can reread and return to your dream. That is a boon for us writers because we are natural storytellers and retelling our dreams, in as much detail and as much accuracy as possible is so so important.
Be sure to let us know when you are posting in your dream journal by posting in the forum. It is a good idea to link to your entry, and provide a brief description so people who are interested can go read the full-length dream if they are so inclined.

I have a suggestion: Consider writing down absolutely EVERYTHING about your dream and rate the blog accordingly (right now you have no rating). Writing down your dreams, no matter how weird they are, is only a therapeutic exercise if you don't hide anything. Hiding certain elements of your dream from us, is only hiding it from yourself.
Consider every minute detail of a dream because sometimes it is those little things that make the biggest difference. Consider, for example, my dreams. I write the gist of them in my journal, but remember to expand on them in my online blog as soon as possible so as not to lose the essence of the dream or the general feeling you had upon waking.
