30 Day Blogging Challenge PROMPT July 20th In 1969, Neil Armstrong first set foot on the moon. Afterward, people commonly complained, “If they can put a man on the moon, why can’t they ______.” How would you finish that statement today? My mind is swimming in not so good thoughts today... much has to do with Covid stupidity and the concept of inequality. Both too heavy topics to want to delve into... so I sit here with a dazed face considering my options. It just might be better not to answer the prompt... I don't feel like offending anyone. So... I did watch the first episode of Canada Reads tonight. They are choosing the best book to represent Canada for 2020. Each day five people debate the merits of 5 books and each day one is eliminated until only one remains. The books are: The contenders and their chosen books and their defenders are: Alayna Fender defending Small Game Hunting at the Local Coward Gun Club by Megan Gail Coles Akil Augustine defending Radicalized by Cory Doctorow Amanda Brugel defending We Have Always Been Here by Samra Habib Kaniehtiio Horn defending Son of a Trickster by Eden Robinson George Canyon defending From the Ashes by Jesse Thistle https://www.cbc.ca/books/canadareads/meet-the-canada-reads-2020-contenders-1.543... Not sure which one I would pick, but Radicalized was eliminated tonight and I am glad about that. It was not all that representative of Canadian lives and tended to be more male based. https://www.cbc.ca/books/canadareads/canada-reads-2020-to-take-place-july-20-23-... |
30 Day Blogging Challenge PROMPT July 19th Besides writing, tell us about a hobby you have. How did you discover it? How long have you been doing it? I like to draw. I have taken a few workshops to play at sketching and watercolour. When I was a kid, my mom and I would hike out along the trails, take a picnic and our sketch books and draw in some nice little meadow area. I liked the quietness and peace of it. It was also something fun to do with my mother. My mother is pretty good. We have also taken pottery and watercolour classes together. I find when I go out for the day, particularly in the summer I like to take my notebook, my sketchbook and my computer. That way I can read or draw, depending on my mood. I have also a sketched student who used to fall asleep on me. She had Rett's Syndrome. I often shared the drawings with her family. That young lady has since passed away, but I still have those wonderful memories of her and my drawings. |
