Nice to know that I'm not alone in the recycling, whether intentional or not. I think I actually have bits of the same phrasing in multiple poems on here-- some really old and some new. It's sort of like revising a poem... re-envisioning, repurposing a line.
I wish you the best of luck in the contest, Kylie. I love free verse poetry, and it's probably my favourite form, even though I don't write it as often as I'd like. Yeah, when I discovered your poem, I was spellbound by the use of descriptive language. You created a scene for me with the starry dusk. It's a beautiful piece, and I think a good poem should be memorable.
As for recycling poetry -- I'm sure I've done it with my poetry, whether it's conscious or subconscious. Hey, if it's our writing, why not?
I feel like I recycle poems, in fact LOL I'm running out of ideas for my haiku collection (on the third set) and I'll start to write a new one, and I'll stop and think, wait, did I write this poem already? I don't know if it's my questionable memory or if I really am writing the same stuff over and over Ah, the joys of writing!

Mandy Thank you, love! One of the reasons I thought to enter that one was because I remembered you calling it out in a newsletter. I have three general poetic styles of free verse that I play with, and "Eiffel Tower Sunset" is fairly representative of one of them. It flirts with meter much more than the others. I've entered a few pieces for Aundria's contest, but none that are as rhythmically smooth as this one, so I figured I'd give it a go.
I actually have a fondness for the poem too. Mostly because I LOVE the line "ring around the rosy skies". It just makes me happy. I wrote it ages ago as part of a different poem. I didn't love the poem, but I loved the line. Yay for recycling!
Anyone else recycle lines if they can make them work better elsewhere?

Serious, actually. I'm as known for short stories as poetry I think. Maybe I'm wrong though. I might be better known for helping new people than for writing at all, for that matter. Gotta be helping the newbies!
