A Journal to impart knowledge and facts |
July 22, 2015 I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done. I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them. I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC. |
I did not know tents in 2015 leak in the rain. I guess they don't have to if you use a sealer on them or buy double wall in a material that does not leak. Use a rain cover on your tent and dig a trench around it when you set up. So, during the rain there won't be many bird sounds because they huddle in tree nooks to keep dry. There are always jays around where people are living. Wildlife is quieter when it rains because they bed down and try to keep dry. 46 degrees Fahrenheit won't be to bad if you have the proper clothing and stay dry. If we cook, I vote for hot drinks, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and hot food. If you are dry in the tents today is a day for reading and writing post cards. If the campsite is quiet you may see small animals wandering in to look around: Rabbits, woodchucks, deer, squirrels. This is a good day to keep food odors under control. How are you going to cook in the rain if you don't have a shelter over the fire? Will a tarp and 4 stakes work? |
