A Journal to impart knowledge and facts |
July 22, 2015 I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done. I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them. I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC. |
Happy New Year to all of WDC and everyone else! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
![]() I found some odd but true New Years Eve Traditions on www.oddee.com. There are quite a few on the website but here are a few of them. Denmark people crash dishes against the doors of their friends. Building up a pile of broken dishes marks you as lucky with lots of loyal friends. They also jump off their furniture as the last minute of the old year bursts into the first minute of the New Year. They are leaping into the New Year. In Italy people wear red to call on the protection of the Arch Angel Michael. In Greece an innocent person with a kind hearted, amiable nature steps into the home with their right foot first. This makes things go right during the year. The USA and Canada have groups of people that dive into freezing lake waters close to midnight. It is a Polar Plunge. I think I know a few people that it would be fun to throw dishes at but it might not bring me good luck for the year. ![]() One more day this year. Time to take down my Christmas Tree. Some people around here think the weather will change as soon as 2016 hits. ![]() |
![]() Did you know that the senate of the USA actually debated the reality of Global Warming. Then they voted on it in a 98 to 1 vote. They decided it is real. This is a Ted Cruz incentive. ![]() Can Ted Cruz be president of the USA if he was born in Canada? We are under the impression you have to be born in the USA. Or is is just a citizen? Is his mother a born in the USA citizen? Interesting internet facts about Cruz the candidate. January is about to catch the tail of 2015 and ride in on the New Year. Keep on keepin on! |
![]() Christmas day was here and gone like a whirlwind. Lots of good things to eat and satisfying gifts that will last the whole year were available. Then the day after we took a flying trip to New York to visit family. More food and gifts. Then a day of down time which I truly needed, which also flew quickly passed. Today was catch up day with barn cleaning and laundry. Now, I need more down time. This is when I start looking at the tree and wondering if it would not be nice to have the room looking treeless again. I have lots of outside trees to look at so I will take the pictures of this years decorations and take the Christmas decorations down on New Years Eve. We are having an ice storm today. Heavy rain freezing on when it hits the ground and trees. The back steps were slick when I went out at noon to feed horses. I walked the dog in the a.m. so I'm glad he got his special time out of house and backyard before the ice storm hit. There is a new year on its way. apondia#1781748 |
![]() It is Christmas Eve. Lots of sunshine here. Lots of wind as well. Just a quiet day. Have you heard about Space X and the Falcon 9 making a point landing on the space pad. I see more signs of a hope that people will leave the planet and find adventure in the stars. In that view, I recommend a science fiction book to read. "The Book of Strange New Things"by Michel Faber. It has lots of great reviews. A good book for the Christmas Season and for the new year. Christmas Peace and Happy Holidays to everyone. ![]() |
![]() ![]() We watched the new Star Wars movie on Sunday. I thought the theme CHOOSE between the light and the dark was apt for this century. After the movie when we were discussing all the interaction between the old and new characters. A new plot started to take place for the next movie. Wonder when that will show up. The fantasy time was fun. At home the news brought us back to reality when we heard a suicide bomber blew up some of the USA soldiers and an interpreter. Their families at home need the prayer support of the nation. I finished shopping for our Christmas dinner and the little touches for the celebration. Just using up the wrapping paper and playing carols for the rest of the season. Two days to the 25th. Sleep tight, stay warm and hang tight to the ankles of children dreaming of sugar plum fairies and Christmas Celebrations while they dance around on the ceiling. Christmas Peace although broken around us is still alive in our hearts. ![]() |
Season's Greetings! ![]() The people praying for snow so Peak n Peak can open have received an answer. The snow started yesterday evening and continues. There is about 4 inches in back yard. Not a lot of wind though and it seems to drift down without being driven. According to the weather person, it will slow down soon and start melting away by Monday. ![]() I found this quote from Josiah Gilbert Holland (1819-1881) He was a medical student, teacher, and editor of Scribner's Monthly. God give us men! A time like this demands strong minds, great hearts, true faith, and ready hands; Men whom the lust of office does not kill; men whom the spoils of office cannot buy; men who possess opinions and a will; men who have honor;men who will not lie; men who can stand before a demagogue and damn his treacherous flatteries without winking; tall men, sun-crowned, who live above the fog in public duty and in private thinking. (As in scripture, today we define men as male and female) ![]() ![]() ![]() 6 days to Christmas/2 days to the winter solstice in Pennsylvania Christmas Peace to everyone apondia#1781748 apondia#1781748 |
