A Journal to impart knowledge and facts |
July 22, 2015 I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done. I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them. I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC. |
What’s the best or worst practical joke that you’ve played on someone or that was played on you? Definition from Oxford dictionary by way of Google:"a trick played on someone in order to make them look foolish and to amuse others." I don't play practical jokes on people or animals. I don't think I even approve of such things. It's like bullying, which can be done to any generation or species. Have you ever watched "America's Funniest Videos"? I have watched this many times. And I have laughed at some of the videos. Sometimes though, some of the things people do to each other look painful and humiliating. So, some of the videos I don't laugh at and I often wonder how serious the injuries are, that you see on this show. Spring is Sprung. Happy Spring to everyone. Now they are forecasting snow again??? |
Write about some of your most memorable vacations. Where did you go? Who were you with? What was your favorite part of the trip? We did not take very many vacations. They had several Christian gatherings in a field within driving distance from us. Week long camping festivals. My family went two different years. There were tents set up where biblical subjects were preached or Christian musicians played and led singing. You were given programs and could chose what you wished to attend. My family went with the people from our church. At one time we had a large family sized tent. Meals were prepared at certain specified times. It was spiritually enlightening. After a couple years the situation collapsed and the meetings were not held any more. Years later I read an old article on the internet that said, the group that was responsible for holding the meetings were not able to pay bills run up as a result of so many people who attended. They went bankrupt and so did not hold any more gatherings. Do to our financial instability we stayed at home on a regular basis. For some years I kept a lot of horses. It meant someone had to be home for chores. Later, when the horses were sold, we kept chickens, dairy goats, and sheep. Still a need to stay at home year round to take care of livestock. I always tried to help the kids find things to keep them busy. I was not as good at it as I now wish, I had been better. Trouble is now I am more educated and more capable of understanding things I never even thought about back then. People can't go back. We can only hope life is better for the generations going forward. MY children had more than I had as a child. My grandchildren have more than my children in learning and technology. That seems like it is the way it should be. |
What do you do to improve your mood when you are sad? If you are frustrated or angry, what is your secret to feeling better? Scripture and my spiritual faith in the Living God is my go to place. Spiritual music helps. I learned from my mother who died as I was turning six years old "Now I lay me down to sleep I Pray the Lord my Soul to Keep, If I should die before I wake ,I pray the Lord my Soul to take." People isolated me and tried to teach me things I should not know. I had no protection from their evil ideas. Still, in all the problems other people have heaped on me I continue to do my daily work. I continue to see that physical death is not the end and daily habits matter. Covid shows us that just getting up and moving on, each day has a reward to it. Are we bored sure. As elderly people are we cast off to make room for younger people. Yep. But, our lives matter even to those who cannot see it. Study ecology. Study the key species. If the key species dies out it takes others with it. Scripture tells us; what the elders know and pass down matters. Otherwise, the young have to travel the exact same path to find the exact same knowledge. Look at space. The universe is expanding at a spontaneous rate. God continues to create. God rested on the seventh day. God did not quit creating. Humans are going to space and beyond. One of the greatest interests to me is the cooperation between nations as they work toward colonizing new planets. Interesting new thoughts, new technology, new knowledge. Look for it. |
Write about your earliest memory. Try to describe it in as much detail as possible. I have lots of early memories. Most of them center around the house I lived in when I was one to three years old. Maybe older I'm not sure. I would not begin to know which memory was the earliest. Each memory seems to center around something that was happening at the time. And, each memory has my Mom in it. One day, I asked my dad about the floor plan of that house. He was surprised I remembered it. I guess he built it with my Grandfather. I drew what I remembered on a piece of paper and he corrected it. I drew boxes of each room. Dad drew a rectangle and showed me where the partitions were. Now, I have a complete idea of what the floor plan of that house looked like. I also remember looking out windows on each side of the house. I remember that the back of the house had a cleared area not very wide and then wild grasses and brush, My brother was warned about rattle snakes at the back of the house? I wonder if he remembers that? From the living room I could see what seems to me a long cleared area, Then, a road, and across the road, the house my aunt and her children lived in. To the left of my view of the front yard was a house my grandparents lived in. To the right of my view was a lot of land. I could see another small house down the road on the same side as my aunts house. Understand these views are from a very small child. Who knows if a lot of land was 20 feet, an acre or 10 acres? I remember sand but, not a lost of lawn grass. It was Florida. I remember a vehicle but not a driveway. Memories from this long ago are interesting. Like the house drawing I wonder what is omitted? |
What are your favorite movie genres? Share some recommendations with your readers! {e:tulipY) I like Detective stories, sometimes chick flicks, outer space drama, drama or some sorts. I will watch lots of different kinds of movies as long as they are not too sexual. Documentaries can be entertaining as well. However, About 2 years ago I had to choose in my budget between Netflix and Prime. Prime won because I shop a lot on line and it was helpful to my budget. During 2020, I began to not watch a lot of TV. I do not like reruns. and the news became to irritating to watch regular. I have lost touch with what movies may have come out in the last two years. Because I have Prime I can still get movies on my kindle. For a space of months this winter our WiFi would not download Prime movies. It is now back to doing proper downloads so I am watching movies from Prime on occasion. I could only recommend older movies at this point. Star Wars is a fun movie even the second time around. |
If you were hired to show tourists what life is really like where you live, what would you show them or have them do? I would show them the rural life and small town life versus the two largest cities. I would show them the work force and where the main jobs are. I would give them a map and map out the distances between where the governments are and where the people actually live. For instance: When I went to get my dog's lifetime license I had to go to the court house to get it. It is approximately 30 to 35 miles away. A regular license can be bought through the mail or on line. After college, when I was trying to find a job, I had a phone call that said I could get a job interview at the courthouse on a certain day and time. There was a blizzard going on at that time. I called the place that the interview was suppose to be and found out it was a scam to get me in a car out in the blizzard. Our phone averages a crank call 4 to 5 days a week. Drivers license bureaus are only in large cities not even centrally located. Walmart and Dollar Stores are getting better now. They are popping up in the small places so you don't drive so far. five miles to the nearest McDonald's. Sixteen miles in two different directions gets us to a Walmart. When my daughter lived here in 2006 she was driving 35 miles one way to her job and back. So 70 miles a day. Add a bad snow storm to that and see the fun begin? Some of the worthwhile gain in pay used up in transportation. Jobs with in driving distance are still needed. When I say rural I mean rural. It's a way of life. Used to be big dairy farms around they have been disappearing over the years. Our country was built be farms. We need our agriculture. |
What lesson do you remember most vividly from your childhood? Sometime over the last 30 years or so I formed this rule: Never believe anything anyone says until it becomes truth in action. That's such a difficult rule to follow. Since many people simply look to others to be accurate and truthful in what they tell you. I'm rushed today so I'll leave it at that. Comments and questions or inquiries are OK. Have a good day. |
What’s your favorite board game or card game to play with friends? I don't spend time with real live human friends. I used to play board games with my grandchildren. That is the latest except for dominoes with Keith a few times. One of the reasons I like my kindle is because there are games to play, puzzles to put together, and books to read any time of the day I find time. also, I like some mahjong games online. Mostly, I've never been a speedy person. I like Manor Matters but, it is a timed game and I rarely find as many items as required in the time they allot. I liked Stranger Things, because it was hunt and search and it I kept at it I could kill the monsters. We have some board games. One of my favorites is Monopoly. I haven't played card games since my first husband was alive. I used to play the card game, hearts I'm not sure I even remember the rules. I played checkers then too. I wonder if there is any place social where people play board games except in a family home, where there are more than two people? Probably why I spent so much time reading and finding books in library's, before kindle. After kindle, being rural it became easier to just download and read. It is also a way to isolate people. That isn't good. Then along came Covid 19 and isolation became more involved. Also after college, when I could not get a job because of? I lost ability to keep a car so more isolation. Now, I get out into the world when I shop. I like online work and shopping, but it really is isolation of a different kind. I'm thinking it will probably, stay this way as I age. Happy Trails. |
