I try not to comment on other countries issues, after all, the crisis that is happening in the US has no bearing on my life here in Australia. But, your piece deserves to be acknowledged.
I used to own hunting rifles, but then on 28th April, 1996, everything changed, when a person, I refuse to name, decided to take aim upon and kill, 35 innocent men, women and children (with coincidentally, an AR15 ArmaLite).
Many more were injured that terrible day, and the government of the time did something that, all theses years later, has proven that in fact, it is guns that kill people.
There hasn't been another massacre since, and the reason is, I believe, that the population was disarmed. A buy back scheme saw millions of weapons crushed, and since then, there are regular amnesties to hand in illegal and unregistered weapons.
Sure, there's still guns out there, and to pretend otherwise is ridiculous, but a kid who is having a hard time at school can't go to his parents bedside drawer and take a concealable firearm, go to school and do something any civilized society should be ashamed of.
I don't know what the answer is...when a country is so afraid that it cannot acknowledge the statistic that owning a gun does not protect you, but actually increases the likelihood of being killed by a gun...often with that very gun.
From the outside looking in, the US is at war...with itself.
Axe throwing lessons? Wow. That goes right up there alongside my wish to learn to joust and archery. It's a serious skill.
No offense to the people of Missouri, but when I drove through there years ago, I couldn't help but think it was the ugliest state in the U.S. So I feel you.
Jun 26, 2018 - MGM National Harbor, MD
Peter Frampton opened for Steve Miller. If you ask me, they got it backwards. Frampton’s performance was far superior. He blew away the Steve Miller Band and should have been the headline act. Towards the end of Peter Frampton’s performance, two well-dressed gentlemen arrived late and caused a considerable fuss making their way to their very expensive front row seats, near center stage. The MGM venue is relatively small and only seats 3,000. The two spoke loudly without regard to the fact that Frampton was wrapping up a live performance. They were obviously there to see Steve Miller. Frampton glared down, standing over them and asked, “Is everything alright?” The tension was unmistakable. The audience hushed. They made a song request. “You want to hear, Show Me the Way,” Peter confirmed. The two appeared pleased, until Peter replied, “Well, if you had arrived on time, you would have heard Show Me the Way, because it was the second song of the evening. Please sit down.” The audience chuckled with approval. Thank you and good night, I thought. Mic drop...
