I agree that if there is love, respect should be in it also. How can it be separate?

So beautiful and heartening to read of your love of your family members!
I like warm, too; not hot, not cold. Unfortunately, where I am we are rarely warm or lukewarm. Mostly hot with a few days of somewhat cold in the dead of winter.

That is terrible. Your poor family! The city governments need to take better action with their drainage systems. That is something that concerns me a lot. In 2018, in Paris when the Seine rose up, due to rain, all the basements around it were flooded, which made the basement rats go up the buildings. Most people were made to evacuate, but when the floods receded, they came back to unbelievable looting and broken windows and doors. The outcomes of floods are horrible.

First, this is not up to me, but since your entry seems to ask for opinions, I'd say why worry about something you have no say over? I know this is difficult under the circumstances, but the decision is for your sister and her husband to make. Whatever they decide, they'll have to handle the results of their decision. You can only help when the result is in the open.

A second possibility is that the ultrasound may not be showing exactly what is there. I know a couple who thought they were getting one kid and ended up with twins. Then, what the ultrasounds, x-rays, etc. show depends on the doctor who interprets what he sees. I hope it is nothing but the doctor's wrong interpretation, but he/she might be right, too.

Also, sometimes, nature takes care of itself. So, please don't worry before anything happens. You'll only cloud your own life.

Yes, it is always helpful to stretch out. You are right about being too close to something. Some things in my life I am still not able to write about like the Vietnam War or 9/11, let alone read a book referring to them. In fact, if I see a book hinting at such a situation in it, I'll skip reading it.

I am with you on this. Aristotle probably wanted his ideas or debates understood easily for the people of his day. Also, sometimes, wise thoughts cannot be expressed in simple words, even if we can show those ideas in character action. Still, I believe in using an easily understandable language, but for that end, I am not going to give up a good piece of prose expressed through better vocabulary.

finding the exceptions

War Chest Wednesday! From a previous challenger...

What is your "philosophy of life"...something that guides the way you live? Why that?

I have never sat down and thought about what my philosophy of life is. I actually have a hard time trying to come up with a pithy saying that encapsulates everything that I believe. I mean, as soon as you do, you find some exception. So, perhaps that’s my philosophy. Every rule has an exception.

Except when it doesn’t.

Which doesn’t say much about how I choose to live. I do try to live my life so that someone looking at what I do would be able to tell that I’m trying to be a good person. Why? Because I’m trying to be a good person, and I want my life to reflect that, without hypocrisy or guile. There are times I fall short, especially when I’m dealing with my family, who know best how to annoy me enough to forget about anything else. I also try not to be judgmental. I mean, if I choose to live my life one way, it’s my choice, and no one else has to do similarly. Just don’t try and make me change how I live so that you’re more comfortable.

I also tend to be confused—I find that living in a state of perpetual confusion gives me an opportunity to be surprised and to react in such a way that I am seldom bored. I dislike being bored. I was one of those young children who would play with a toy long enough to figure out how it worked, and then abandon it because it had no more wonder to offer. So, I try to live life in such a way that I’m not bored, and that comes with an attitude of confusion (you could call it wonder) where I’m willing to look at everything that comes my way as if it were new.

Except when I don’t.
