I agree that if there is love, respect should be in it also. How can it be separate?

So beautiful and heartening to read of your love of your family members!
I like warm, too; not hot, not cold. Unfortunately, where I am we are rarely warm or lukewarm. Mostly hot with a few days of somewhat cold in the dead of winter.

That is terrible. Your poor family! The city governments need to take better action with their drainage systems. That is something that concerns me a lot. In 2018, in Paris when the Seine rose up, due to rain, all the basements around it were flooded, which made the basement rats go up the buildings. Most people were made to evacuate, but when the floods receded, they came back to unbelievable looting and broken windows and doors. The outcomes of floods are horrible.

First, this is not up to me, but since your entry seems to ask for opinions, I'd say why worry about something you have no say over? I know this is difficult under the circumstances, but the decision is for your sister and her husband to make. Whatever they decide, they'll have to handle the results of their decision. You can only help when the result is in the open.

A second possibility is that the ultrasound may not be showing exactly what is there. I know a couple who thought they were getting one kid and ended up with twins. Then, what the ultrasounds, x-rays, etc. show depends on the doctor who interprets what he sees. I hope it is nothing but the doctor's wrong interpretation, but he/she might be right, too.

Also, sometimes, nature takes care of itself. So, please don't worry before anything happens. You'll only cloud your own life.

Yes, it is always helpful to stretch out. You are right about being too close to something. Some things in my life I am still not able to write about like the Vietnam War or 9/11, let alone read a book referring to them. In fact, if I see a book hinting at such a situation in it, I'll skip reading it.

I am with you on this. Aristotle probably wanted his ideas or debates understood easily for the people of his day. Also, sometimes, wise thoughts cannot be expressed in simple words, even if we can show those ideas in character action. Still, I believe in using an easily understandable language, but for that end, I am not going to give up a good piece of prose expressed through better vocabulary.

historical interest

What period of history is most interesting to you?

I’m not sure. I kind of like living in the modern world rather than any specific point in history. After all, all periods of history have their flaws—from sanitation to food to plagues—and I know the problems of our time sufficiently. There’s also the fact that insulin wasn’t refined for human consumption until 1922, which means that before then, I would be dead. There are traces of type one diabetes back in ancient Egypt—in fact it was a disease that annoyed and disgusted one famous Greek physician, who basically said it was a useless disease that couldn’t be cured. But that really wasn’t the question. It’s not about living there, it’s about general interest.

I am interested in Shakespeare and England of that day. In fact, I’m also interested in John Donne and Chaucer—all separate periods of English history that I would be interested to visit. I tend to be more interested in periods of history before the industrial revolution. The way people lived before the world got so small. Which means, of course, that a lot of periods of American history fall into the meh area for me.

I’m interested in ancient civilizations. Egypt, Greece, Rome to a lesser extent (mostly because it’s more documented and so there are less edges to build stories into), China. I’m interested in the Anazazi and other peoples who have disappeared. I’m interested in the Britons and the Celts and knights and druids—in fact, I am interested in just about everything. Mostly because of the people and the stories involved.

I wouldn’t want to live in any of those places, but I don’t mind learning about them and using them in stories.
