Thoughts, we all have them. What is yours? |
What is on your mind? I love all type of topics and will talk about almost anything! So, what is happening with you lately? The Huntington Japanese Gardens, photo by Seabreeze |
Banks, Government Agencies and Using the Phone My husband is trying to move funds from one bank to another because he has moved. Most was simple, once he understood how to read his current bank's web site. The hardest part is getting hold of a banker at the bank that could really help or one you could understand. Since my husband has difficulty hearing, he has used me to help him on the telephone. Once he explains it to the bank officer, they usually agree and he is on his way with the call. However, lately we get recordings, can't reach a person at his bank, leave messages and no one is calling back. We finally got some accounts transfer via the web site into his checking, which now he can write a check and deposit it into the new bank. The biggest glich is an IRA. With the IRA, once again, when we did reach a person at the bank, they would put my husband on hold stating that they needed to speak to someone reading it. Then they would come back on the line and say they needed to transfer us to another division of the bank that handles IRAs. We spoke to one of those individuals and they insisted we needed to go back to his main branch and talk with them and they could set it up. BACK and FORTH we went until on one call we got disconnected. I tried calling back immediately but once again a message machine says "leave you information at the Beep and we will call you back". That has been several days ago. Now, that is only part of the story. He needs to set up with Social Security his new bank so that his check is deposited in the new bank. We were going to go to the branch office but I thought best to call to see if he needed an appointment. Could not get through, waiting time 2.0 plus hours so left message for call back. This was Friday; ya, I know. Finally my husband gets his call from Social Security. I tell the assistant at Social Security that my husband has trouble hearing and that he would give him permission to work with both of us on the phone. Now Social Security says that we can go on line, come to the office, or call and an assistant can help him. I ask him if we could do this now since we are on the phone with them. But the gentleman says I could not intervere with the phone call, and can not direct my husband in any way. I spoke to my husband explain that I could not help and the assistant at Social Security reprehanded me saying I could not interfere in anyway. I explained I understood and he was upset because I was trying to explain that to my husband. I told him I understood and didn't want to interfere, understood his rules and he was still upset and said my husband would have to call back and that this conversation would have to terminate. Well, I lost my cool, but didn't yell at the man but tried again to tell him I wasn't. He insisted that I already had and disconnected the call. What the F**k? So since it was getting close to 5pm and I figured we could not wait again on line and expect to get another person on Friday night, that was that. I was livid. Between the original bank and SS, I had enough for the day. Thank God, we had Karaoke that evening as I needed the relief! |
Have you even wondered where the use of coins came from? Everytime I get change back I think where will I put this? I laugh at myself because I usually cram it in my small coin pocket on my wallet which causes a big lump. When I get home it immediately goes in our little coin cup for later (whatever that may be). It is amazing that we don't have to deal with coins directly. With the Internet, online banking, credit cards, most of us do not deal with paper money much anymore. Years and years back people would barter for the items they needed. But to trade, you have to bring something to the table. I don't think I would want to travel around and carry fur pelts with me. Or, maybe knives were you speciality. Silver I know was used a lot. But, maybe you purchased an item and needed cash back? I believe they would just cut off the chunk of silver for you purchase and then you had a remaining piece left. What if you wanted to buy that nice piece of jewelry but you didn't have enough chunk left. I guess you would get out another chunk of silver and go from there. I am not really mentioning this in the since of a true study but just in general for fun. I could research it but I kind of like just my quick analysis of the "what if...". But the concept of money is fascinating to think about. In todays age, with the banking system, backing by the government, Internet, credit cards, automatic transfers, isn't nice we don't have to carry around fur pelts? Have a nice day, Seabreeze |
Are you ready for a new year? I always look forward to a new year I am not one who makes resolutions but I do get into getting rid of some things. Out goes some of those clothes I didn't wear last year. Maybe a piece of furniture, or old sheets and some dishes. It is time for new, right? I have already ordered and receive some new curtain panels for my bedroom. I see I need new lights outside to decorate that walk way. Our dog has picked up a few pounds and needs a new carrying case for travel. I am thinking of renewing my commitment to re-reading the Bible from cover to cover (did that this year). So, it is important to look at the new year with optimism and maybe make a few promises to yourself. I might even try to walk more. In Florida, it get pretty hot and unless you get moving early in the morn, walking isn't that much fun. So I need to move and do it sooner. Little Guy, our dog, doesn't like to walk. He would run if I let him. It is hard to get a good pace out of him. I also plan on putting in more study in learning reading piano notes. I am doing okay but I know I can do better and plan better. I hope your New Year starts out with a bang! Seabreeze |

I cannot believe that Christmas is almost here and the year almost past! I got to thinking about the New Year and things I wanted to do in January. Closet cleaning and purging to name a few. How about you? I also thought about all the stuff on my computer, especially pictures. So I was reviewing and came across some pics I took when I was visiting museums in Los Angeles. I love art, all kinds, so museums are a big deal for me. At the Norton Simon Museum in Los Angeles, California, I took a snap shot of The Thinker. The artist is Auguste Rodin. When you see the Thinker, it is hard not to wonder what he was thinking or what Rodin wanted us to think he was thinking. Was it about mankind, or the world? Originally named The Poet according to Wikipedia. It was part of a large commission and it probably makes more since when viewed with its original works called The Gates of Hell. I think he was saying, "Get me out of here". In any case it fascinates me and I thought it would be fun the share it in a trinket. So enjoy, my gift to you, Merry Christmas! Seabreeze |
It is the 13th. And, it also is Friday! Should we be concerned? Who out there believes in such superstitions? I have never been one to believe in superstitions. I am somewhat considered a conspiracy believer. You say what does that have to do with it? I think probably nothing but to me its seems they might have some connection. What is the connection? If there is fire there is smoke. Let's look. If you walk along and see a latter up against construction wall, do you go around or do you just say, "what the heck" and go under? I go around because if I go under, something just might happen. Something may fall through or I might hit the latter or ? Why take the chance, right? Now you say how does that relate to conspiracy thinking? Well, if there is anything that seem unusual, out-of-place, just doesn't sit right, that gets you thinking deeper, right? And then you find something else isn't right and you think a little deeper. May be the comparison is that we think, analyze the situation more. What do you think? I am really interested in your opinion and it is a fun discussion, right? Seabreeze |
What are your thoughts about Karaoke?? Do you sing and enjoy it? My community where I live has Friday night Karaoke and I love it. It goes from 6pm to 10. Some Fridays I make the whole 4 hours but being 79 and the chairs are not the best, it usually is less time. My hubby, now he is amazing as he is 91 and he hangs in there. He sings as well. Karaoke is special because we all do not have to be an Elvis or Barbra or Alan Jackson. No, we just have to love music. We gather, bring snacks to share and our favorite brew! Years ago, I was a very shy person and wanted to get over it so I signed up for a singing group. The teacher was a person who sung professionally, played piano and was very encouraging to us newbies. So, I sung a song in front of about 6 of us. Not a lot of people but believe me, it helped a bunch. So now, I have been told, I have a good voice and I believe those who have said that are sincere. But, a key component is to sing within your range of voice. Some folks do not honor this. However, I am very forgiving and tolerate it. After all it is for fun and we are not professionals but you can only take so much cat screaming! The other aspect is timing. Folks, you must watch the bouncing ball, bouncing finger or whatever is on the screen to help you keep in time. So, if you have not tried it, I say give it a go. You will enjoy it even if you try it only once. Seabreeze 12.02.24 |
