Hi, I'm Elle. I'm based in Auckland, New Zealand. I'm the mother of two young adults, the wife of an entrepreneurial gamer and the Queen of Unfinished Projects. This blog will contain poems, short stories, possibly photos and book reviews if you're lucky, and my thoughts on a variety of topics. Hope you enjoy it.

In the early days of Writing.Com, SM and SMs hosted in-person Conventions for members! Share your thoughts on what a Convention hosted today might look like. Where would it be hosted? How many members could attend? What activities would take place? Who would you want to meet in person? ~ "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUSOpen in new Window.

I would LOVE to go to a WDC convention. That would be so awesome. When I've travelled overseas, I've always tried to connect with other WDC members, but it hasn't been easy to make it work. On my first trip to the UK in 2014, I met up with Jellyfish - HAPPY 25th WDC!! Author Icon. And on my second trip in 2018 I met up with Andy~hating university Author Icon. And Wordsmitty ✍️ Author Icon met up with me when he came to Auckland.

As those three will be able to tell you, I struggle with meeting new people in real life. I go very quiet and self-conscious. Jenny is wonderfully outgoing, so she and Dodgy Steve Author Icon just chatted away to each other until I found my voice and slowly started to come out of my shell. It was easier with Andy because he came across as a bit shy, which naturally has the opposite effect on me and I go into 'mothering mode' which means that I want to make him feel more comfortable. With Smitty, I think it took me a while, and the situation wasn't helped by the fact that we both stood in the hotel foyer for about fifteen minutes looking at each other without realising that we were the ones each other was looking for. *Laugh*

So if there was actually a WDC convention, I'd be happy to run activities, give a speech, play hostess, any of that stuff. I've done that for companies that I've worked for before. I have no problem with public speaking or whatever. But all of that falls into the category of 'I have a purpose in talking to you'. As soon as it goes down to idle introductory chitchat, I'm screwed. I can't do the 'Hi, I'm Elle, lovely to meet you' without feeling like a total dickwad, unless I've perceived that the other person is shy, lonely or lost, in which case I have a purpose. See how it works? So I come across as totally self-confident because I can be the one greeting everyone as they arrive, and I can stand up and do a speech in front of 200+ people, but I can't walk up to a group of three or four people and join in their conversation. *Facepalm*

It would be SO awesome to have a convention in NZ, but that'll never happen. Not an official one at any rate. I bet Warped Sanity Author Icon would come though, right? It's an awesome place to visit! *Laugh* We need to have a mini one though, with Osirantinous Author Icon, Fi Author Icon and anyone else who may be interested. It'll have to be further south than Auckland (where I live) because Os and Kas live about seven hours drive south of me (give or take an hour) but quite close to each other. I'd love to meet up with them both. Os and I have talked on Google Hangouts, so I feel like we'd fall into a comfortable space really quickly. It'd be a little weird with Kas. Ugh, and I'd totally call them both Os and Kas, rather than Teresa and Fiona. *Laugh* There's definitely an upside to using your real name on this site! It won't be weird when everyone calls me Elle! *Rolling*

There are so many people I'd love to meet. I know that people will get butt hurt (as Warped Sanity Author Icon put it) but fuck it. The prompt asks us to name people, I'm going to name people! So! If I ever win squillions in the lottery, these are the people I would make an effort to go and visit first:
Gaby Author Icon
Fran 🌈🧜‍♀️ Author Icon
Osirantinous Author Icon
Rhonda Author Icon
Cinn Author Icon
Fivesixer Author Icon
ANN Counselor, Lesbian & Happy Author Icon
Witchy Woman Author Icon
Charlie ~ Author Icon
Shaye Author Icon
THANKFUL SONALI Party Hopping! Author Icon
Kit Author Icon
Jayne Author Icon

And hey, if I've won squillions, it's my shout. *Laugh*

If you're not on that list, well, what I can say? You obviously need to try harder to ingratiate yourself with me. *Rolling*

A convention would be even better than a one-on-one though, because then you'd get the group dynamics, like Cinn and Norb triggering each other and what-have-you. *Smile* It'd be so awesome. As soon as I've won the lottery, I'll organise it! *nods*
