Learning to crawl is the difficult step,
the hemming and hawing and learning to prep.

Past that part, the wobbling footsteps feel great,
string words together and learn to create.

After those stumbles, I hit my first stride,
smile at the page as I read it, wide-eyed.

I wonder what's next. Do I now start to blossom?
Or forever unable to craft something awesome?

If they listened to me,
they’d eat cake and not bread.

If they listened to me,
they’d have silk for their thread.

If they listened to me,
we would never have fled.

If they listened to me,
I would still have my head.

“So this is goodbye?”
“Baby, don’t cry…”

“But I wanted to see—”
“What you know we could be.”

“Except that you won’t—”
“More like you don’t.”

“I thought we would know—”
“How to get past hello?”
