At trail’s terminus,
tresses whipping smiling lips,
I pirouette,
hands outstretched,
sculpting rivers of air
with unbridled exuberance,
gifting them
my civilized concerns.

*Brrrrrrrrrrzzzzzzzzzzzzzz*
Not rock concert loud,
yet oddly able to rumble
the very foundations of my soul,
its gut-twisting sound
that of a freighter-sized honey bee
lacking the nearby fragrance
of perfect pastel petals.

Finished drafting my cyberpunk story for the sci-fi contest. An editing pass to go, then I'll post it. Feels good. It's been several months since I entered that contest, but I really like it...

Late winter day,
so much like the others,
horizon thick with billowed gray.

Reluctant to slip from the covers,
I will fatigue’s leaden inertia away.
Desire dominates indolent druthers.

I battle this dreary diem
in creativity’s audacious coliseum.

Daily, passing
shopping carts,
sleeping bags,
I grow numb.

Until the day
when I realize
I have the power
to help.

just when i think
that this earthly firmament
is my foundation
it shudders

i’m reminded
that perpetuity
may only be found
in the ethereal

An arsenal of St. Paddy’s limericks
champing at the edge of my childish brain,
I attempt to blink away
the stomach-sinking disappointment
at the pair of alliterative words
that form the title of the message
at the top of the forum:

“Contest Closed”.

A speech finished.
A burden diminished.

With a sigh and tinny plop,
I collapse into a folding chair,
careful not to snag my gown,
grinning to endless iterations
of Pomp and Circumstance.

A wistful tear slithers,
adolescence withers.

When the moment comes,
for the first time,
a two-fingered fling
of a black square cap
actually feels fitting.

A soggy-cheeked hug,
heartstrings tug.

Still, this isn’t the end.
Graduation to this new life,
so similar to the old,
except, for the first time,
it was mine.

So easy to lose track
of my slippery soul
in the perpetual buzz
of work… people… play…

…so difficult to notice…

…until I find
a quiet moment
for vivacious verse.
