When I look in the mirror Tomorrow looks back.
I see the outcome of all that has occurred.
The planned and the unexpected, the good and the bad.
The future comes to me like raindrops in a hurricane.
There are moments when I wish I could use my knowledge to change what is for me but what could be for you.
Alas a message from me is like a postcard without a stamp left to be lost in the mail of time.
I often feel like I am staring at a photograph of the past haunted be what I cannot change.
But some outcomes shine above the rest as I see dreams come to life and hopes fulfilled more beautifully than ever imagined.

Cows of Which I never saw.
Mountain Majesties galore.
Twilight's called the violet hour;
shares its name with certain flowers.
Harold's crayon make the list.
Prince's rain and amethyst.
Royals share this color craze.
It's all just a Purple Haze!

A discarded crumpled up piece of paper
colorful and coated with wax.
It flies in the breeze with no set destination...
Content to go wherever the wind carries it.

It's worthless now but once it was a guardian
protecting a sweet prize within.
Ensuring a moment of joy to the one who unwrapped it,
its purpose is now fulfilled.

Prompt: "WRITE A POEM ABOUT SOMETHING WORTHLESS." for "EIGHT, the Weekend - 06.16.24"  Open in new Window.

Authors Note: I was picturing a Starburst wrapper when writing this. It is one of my favorite types of candies.

You'd have thought that the days of sailing were over when the last drop of water evaporated on Earth. Instead, the invention of the Sand Thruster gave rise to Desert Sailing where ships could race across the remnants of the dead planet at thousands of miles per hour. From that came the Pacific Regatta, an endurance boat race that proved to be one of the most deadly and cutthroat survivor sports of all time.

Look in my hands what could it be?
A simple hat for all to see.
The top extends and seems quite snazzy.
A classic look from eras jazzy.

But wait there's more if you watch quick,
You'll see the perfect magic trick
An ancient move yet done by habit.
I'll reach inside pull out a rabbit! *Rabbit*
