Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic: WRITE AN INDECISIVE POEM. Should I write a poem, or read my book? Should I eat an apple or should I cook? Should I take a nap, I'm feeling tired? Should I drink more coffee until I'm wired? Should I go outside and get some air? Should I fill the tub and soak in there? I just can't decide what I should do? There's too many options, I haven't a clue! "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." T.J. |
Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic: ENERGY DRAINERS; OVERWORKING. I was under paid for too much work because my boss was just a jerk; I was required to do the job of three; He reaped the profits instead of me. I had enough and one day I quit. Surprised, my boss then threw a fit. But now that I won't work no more I've discovered my boss has hired four! "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." T.J. |
Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic: WRITE A POEM ABOUT A CUP. This is my cup, stained, chipped and old It keeps my coffee hot and is easy to hold It's not very fancy, just simple and plain A second hand cup but I can't complain It once was my mother's, was held in her hand And that makes my cup priceless and grand We have fancy cups just as fine as can be But my mother's old cup is the finest to me "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic: Plan a get-away. Waving a gun he yelled, “Hit the dirt. Do what I say and you wont get hurt.” With masked face he passed the note It read, “Put all the cash in this tote.” He took up the money, he ran out the door, He’d successfully robbed the liquor store. He didn’t get far, the police in his way ‘Cuzz he’d forgotten to plan, a get-away! "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." T.J. |
Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic: "wild goose chase". A wild goose chase is a phrase That when I think creates a daze. Who would try and chase that goose That’s untamed and on the loose? A wild goose chase is not that way As I discovered one sunny day. In the park, that goose you see I did not chase, it chased me! "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." T.J. |
Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , off topic: Written to my wife for Valentine's Day Love was hurtful, love was anguish and pain. Love was nothing but giving without any gain. I gave up on loving, swore I’d do it no more Until the day when you knocked on my door. Yes, that was the day you changed my life, For when I opened the door I met my wife. Twenty-two years have passed by the way And I love you more with each passing day. "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." T.J. |
Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic: Image of apple in mirror. Mirror, mirror on the stand Your reflection looks so grand. Yet the image that you show Is deceitful, I'll have you know. Just like the people that I meet In the stores or on the street. They show reflection to our face while hide deceit without a trace. "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." T.J. |
Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic: THE 60s - UNDER THE SEA and INTO SPACE. When you smile at me with a twinkle in your eye I feel as high as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin When they walked on the surface of the moon. When you smile at another with a twinkling eye My spirits drop deeper than Walsh and Piccard's Decent to the bottom of the Mariana Trench. But, when you take my hand in yours and say, "You are my only love" I'm always in Heaven. "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." T.J. |
Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic: The squeaky wheel gets the grease. The Squeaky wheel gets the grease So the squeaking sounds will cease. But if that squeaking still goes on The noisy wheel will soon be gone! The quiet wheel gets no grease But it continues to spin in peace. All your squeaking is just a waste For in the end you’ll be replaced. "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." T.J. |
Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic WRITE A SUBTERRANEAN POEM. In a world of censored writing There can never be enlightening. No record of our history. No pages of our imagery. No way to express just who we are With other people both near and far. Ageless wisdom never found. Humanity buried underground. "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." T.J. |
Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , off topic. Walking through a forest green, You never know what may be seen. I saw a man riding a moose, On his lap, he carried a goose. Alongside, a stream was flowing. I wondered, "Where are you going?" Not written to the prompt, but to the image from "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , 02/06/2024. "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." T.J. |
Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic: Jewel Like rough stones polished by water flowing So are some people with age and growing. By filling their lives with honor and duty They expose to others their inner beauty. The once rough facade is slowly cut away, The inner jewel revealed more each day. So live your life with both honor and duty And show all the world your inner beauty. "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." T.J. |
Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic: 50s FUN FACTS ! TV Dinners Were Introduced What should we have for Thanksgiving? How about some liver and cabbage stew? That sounds horrible; I want turkey and stuffing. I refuse to eat anything else, and I ain't bluffing! Aunt Mabel don't like turkey; she's so unforgiving. Grandpa won't eat stuffing, says it taste like a shoe! It was back in the 50's when I heard all this puffing; Swanson's TV dinners brought an end to the huffing! It's kind of a varied rhyme pattern; trying something new. "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." T.J. |
Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic: PLEASING AROMAS, PINE Out in the country, no one around, All is quiet 'cept for animals sound. The dancing campfire creates a halo; I sit by the warmth, enjoying it's glow. A crimson sunrise enlightens the dawn, Walking the tree line, a doe and her fawn. Sweet smells surround me, carried on breeze, Aroma of coffee, wood smoke, and pine trees. "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." T.J. |
Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic: Image of someone climbing a cliff The rock wall rises straight to the sky, If I loose my grip I will fall and die. Just my fingers and toes suspend my weight Gripping cracks in rock, they hold my fate! It's over a hundred feet down, if I fall; The tops a hundred more, this cliff is tall. My fingers slip and I plummet and scream — To wake in my bed, it was all a bad dream. "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." T.J. |
Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic: sew on a button I lost the button off my shirt, But found it lying in the dirt. Should I put it in my pocket Or store it safely in my locket? Maybe I could tie it to a string And watch the little button swing. I'll sew it so my shirt stays closed Ensuring my belly is not exposed. "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." T.J. |
Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic: image of doors My mind is a hallway, doors on each side. Behind each of these doors memories hide. Some memories are loving, happy, and glad, While others are scary, hurtful, and sad. In the light of the day I open door after door Enjoying the wonderful memories they store. At night, in my dreams, other doors open wide With nightmares and terrors best left inside! "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." T.J. |
Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic: I Choose the Mountain Should I choose the mountain? Just how high should I climb? Will I ever reach the summit? Do I have the strength and time? Or should I stay in the forest? With a canopy of branches overhead And a cool stream to bring me water; I think I'll stay here til I'm dead. "Reading soothes the soul, writing sets it free." T.J. |
Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic: LIVING MINDFULLY Living life mindfully is honorable and wise, In time it should become both habit and reprise. Always think out what you do, always be aware. Consider other people and treat each other fair. In the end life's measured by how you think and act. It's what you have contributed, not what you may extract. Put your best foot forward and always give your best, Instead of living life mindlessly, like many of the rest. Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT " , topic: Image of stairs (I've been fighting myself to return to active writing, this photo brought to mind my hesitance and why) Before me stands a cold gray stair And I wonder in silence as I star What lies above, hope or despair? I long to see, and I know I must. It may be fortune or I may go bust. My legs are stiff like a thing of rust. So, I turn my back and I walk away Leaving these steps for another day...
