This is a continuation of my blogging here at WdC

This will be a blog for my writing, maybe with (too much) personal thrown in. I am hoping it will be a little more interactive, with me answering questions, helping out and whatnot. If it falls this year (2024), then I may stop the whole blogging thing, but that's all a "wait and see" scenario.

I am serious. He wanted to kill me for making fun of Jesus. The fact I am on the other side of the world and he is a keyboard warrior nowadays would probably make me goad him; back then, I did panic.

So, yes, he wanted to kill me. Seriously.

Glad they didn't carry it out! Some reviews totally cross the line. Around here, we get spoiled... I feel peeved when someone gives me three stars. I think I especially hate it when they say "hey, good story..." Without any reason for giving less than five stars, or at least four if it just didn't appeal to them

The advice is really really good. May inspire me to write a 'decent' story. We'll see. My goals are poetry at the moment and establishing new habits.

I think you must have high standards for yourself. Your "bad" is a lot better than a lot of "good" (published) books out there.

citruspocket - I have a 50 page rule. Within 50 [pages, I give up. But many of these I read to be patriotic or for school or for book clubs.

Never again.

And I hope you enjoyed the Magic Pudding even if the pudding itself was a little scary...

I decided a long time ago that if I'm bored or struggling with a book, then I'll give it up... there are far too many good ones out there to waste time struggling with a bad one! My opinion was formed by reading a few Literary books which mostly seemed to be about boring adults getting divorced... Now I read a lot of sci fi and fantasy, much more fun

As a sidenote, I have Australian relatives so read The Magic Pudding when I was younger! I remember finding the illustrations of the pudding a little bit scary though...

I find myself distracted by the lyrics if music is playing while I write, even if it's just instrumental, my mind starts putting lyrics in. Instead, I have found different background sounds work with my writing and have used thunderstorm sounds work well for action and horror, while soft rain or waterfalls work with more mellow writing.

Reposting Another Old Blog

So, I will continue to offer words of advice from other writers far more knowledgeable and experienced that me.

This one from 2012 is about dealing with negative reviews.
It basically says all writers get them, and nothing is universally loved.
This was originally sent to me by a writer friend from the USA because I had recently received a death threat coming from my first book.

A DEATH THREAT!

Amazon banned the person who left the review (and threat) and wiped it out, but I was threatened with death by some USian who called himself a Christian (which was the basis for said threat). I was worried; he wanted to kill me! I even contacted the police here in Australia, and I believe he was sent a message, but I don't know what came of it.
So, having said all that, here is a quick look at some negativity in reviews. The links don’t all work (come on, it’s 13 years old!) but the message remains.

So true, so true…
However, for what it’s worth, A Wrinkle In Time was a 2-star book at most. I can understand the 1-star reviews there.
