This is a continuation of my blogging here at WdC

This will be a blog for my writing, maybe with (too much) personal thrown in. I am hoping it will be a little more interactive, with me answering questions, helping out and whatnot. If it falls this year (2024), then I may stop the whole blogging thing, but that's all a "wait and see" scenario.

I would say, "It's just unbelievable, what some folks will pitch a fit over!", but I guess it's not. This is certainly something for me to keep in mind, as I sometimes flavor my stories with locally identifiable bits of Americana. I don't think I've come right out and used an actual business's name, but it's not outside the realm of possibility.

AmyJo-Boy is it getting hot! - The Disney cartoon made it clear Alice was in a dream, but the books, not so much. I like to think she was in an alternate reality.

Dallas was a shocker. they killed Bobby Ewing off because Patrick Duffy wanted to be a movie actor... and then when he wanted to come back, he was in a shower, and the previous 2 seasons were retconned into being his wife's dream. And, boy, did it upset fans! That's when most say Dallas lost it, showing the negative power of dreams in stories if used poorly...

I've never thought of these things before. I know in the TV show "Dallas" one season was devoted to Bobby's death. The end of the season showed him in the shower and that it was all a dream. Kinda turned me off of the show.

The Twilight Zone can often get away with these kinds of stories, as it is, well, the Twilight Zone.

I never thought about Alice being in a dream before. It is something to consider. If she was in a dream, her imagination ran rampant.

I just wrote a short story last night for a contest I am co-hosting with Jeffrey Meyer. I based all of the characters on family members, only using their first names.

In the telling of the story, which is a greatly embellished piece based on a few true events, I tried to be very careful in how I portrayed some characters, even though this piece will never be seen outside of WDC.

Your words have given me pause, and I will keep it in mind for whatever comes out of my brain next.

Interesting story, though I might have trouble keeping up. I don't always do well with dual timelines or dual storylines or dual anything these days. lol But I am happy to see someone who uses...or used to use ellipses more than I do. Hahaha!

That's funny. I never even thought that deeply about the water situation on Tatooine, but you're right. And, ultimately, we should all hope to have books so well-written that at first glance, no one notices such things, but perhaps so popular, that later people dig for details to pick us apart on. I mean, I can see your point here. And, in hindsight, yes. But still, who knows? Maybe, like our own world, much of it used to be covered with water. If you look at many places, there is evidence of water, erosion, shells, where there is none now. Maybe someone needs to write the historical backstory of ancient Tatooine. lol

Anyway, thanks for bringing this up and making us think! You always bring so much to the table here!

And here’s the thing – can you think of a recent song about taking your partner and just getting away from a life of drudgery? I mean, released recently, say, last 20 years? I can’t, and I am a music nerd. Why? Maybe we realise there is no escape. Maybe the world has beaten us down too hard.

I also think there are other possibilities. Maybe now it's about running toward something we want rather than away from something. Or perhaps we already managed to run away and we're successful. We don't need songs about running away when we've managed to escape the traps that bound previous generations.

External Writerings May 2025

That time of the month where I list the writing I have done for Weekend Notes (and any other places that could be bothered publishing me online).

Songs and films only this time. Just some favourites and a DVD review. Standard stuff, but lots to listen to!
Remember, you do not have to listen to the songs (though I would be grateful if you did), but every look at the articles from a different IP address with no ad blockers helps me out in my increasingly desperate attempts to make money as a person who writes.

My favourite songs from Eurovision... and most didn't make the final! Although the winner is here.

Some songs about praying.

Reviewing a film that I think is often under-valued from the Star Warts canon , for May the 4th (B with U).

Some very different cover versions and reinterpretations of classic rock and pop songs. (And a Christmas carol.)

My favourite albums released in 1965. Some absolute corkers here!

5 articles this month. I have to do at least 4 to keep my ranking in the top 25 contributors, so your clicks will also help me in that regard. As usual, if you want a certain topic covered in songs (I can do films and books as well), leave a comment below. I would love to give readers what they want.
