A new blog to contain answers to prompts

Since my old blog "Everyday Canvas " became overfilled, here's a new one. This new blog item will continue answering prompts, the same as the old one.

Joy, I don't know if my comment is a side note or related, but I do like your message of patience. Being a Gemini, patience can be extremely challenging to me. Sigh...

Being stationed in Germany in the late 80's early 90's was a semi-sobering experience. Heck, the kaserne where the hubby was stationed on in Bad Hersfeld, had semi-scrubbed off nazi markings on it. The major building was called McPheeters Barracks and if you research on the web a bit, you'll find photos of it during the Nazi days. I got to know several German nationals, all of them sweet, but the majority of them, grandchildren of nazis, still sporting hurts and embarrassment about the war. We learned about the build up of the Nazi party starting in the late 1920's through the 30's etc and there's a process to it. From name calling, to vandalism, to dehumanization to violence. Years later when I would have to visit the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles for training for my job, I was reminded of all that.

What am I trying to say? When you call someone a Nazi you dehumanize them. I'm not into that. I try to exercise patience and compassion and empathy. It's not easy because you have to find a balance between that patience/compassion, and sticking up for yourself and your beliefs, too. I hope I made sense.

I'd like to strangle Patience. Me? I've made the decision to travel for 2-3 months. By February the political situation in the USA should be clearer. I leave because my nerves can't take drama and the bullseye on my back. We shall see.

I didn't recognize the movie from what you wrote but as soon as I looked at the clip, I remembered how heart wrenching that scene was. Tom Hanks did such an amazing job as Forrest.

This is very creative Joy. Gloomy, and rings my alarm bells, I feel as if I am reading a prophecy. Your timing, just after Halloween and before the 2024 USA presidential election, makes this entry exceptional.

I can almost smell the bonfires somewhere from my ancient past, or did I taste the hollowed turnip bits in my soup?
I recall untouched plates at the table as people remembered, fondly, the dearly departed.

Yup, you do have a fancy active imagination. I can also imagine, since there is that idea of other lives we might have had, what if they all got jumbled up with all the old, young and middle times, in between! Now, that's something that tests my imagination. Lol!

We writers have to hide behind our words, it seems to me. Otherwise, we wouldn't be writers or our writing would lack conviction.
Then, I think sometimes, and only sometimes, I can pick up cues from reading faces, but I never trust myself with it. I have to know a person for a while to be sure. Great if you can pick cues when looking at a person for the first time, though!

I believe this phrase is pointing to the appreciation of probably a few people or some rare moments in life, as it shows an appreciation for something or someone bringing exceptional warmth, happiness, and meaning to life. Such moments and people can be rare, maybe, but if we are lucky, such moments and people can abound. The word "few" adds a layer of scarcity to the idea suggesting that valuable moments and people are not easily found and experienced.

I tend to differ, however, with the scarcity idea in that phrase. Good people are not scarce, for everyone has some good in them, probably hidden deep down inside for some. What brings out the good in a human being may be luck, but more likely, it is appreciation. Most of the time, appreciated people will try to live up to that expectation.

As to moments, I think it is how we look at them. Some things in my life I thought were negative--later on--proved to be the best possible events, situations, and such, to my benefit.

"Precious and few?" Maybe. On the other hand, "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder."
