This is the first "root" in Roots & Wings.
My Großmama used to make this cake on most festive occasions for the cake buffet – yup, we Germans love our handmade diabetes for our birthdays and holidays, no matter which holiday. . And, since there was mostly a truce in my turbulent to warring family for these (few) days at a time, I have mostly good memories of them.
