Basically anything under 1500 words. Enjoy

The poem which won 1st place at "Rebel Poetry Contest" is "Stained Portrait" . I don't usually write in such an overdramatic fashion

The poem which placed second at "Writing 4 Kids" is "Earth is Home" . That is more of my style

The story which placed second at "The Bard's Hall Contest" is "Peg Legs, Parrots and Samurai Swords" . I occasionally write something that might be considered funny...

First place (story) at "Writing 4 Kids" is "Duck Family Vacation"

Second place (poem) at "Rebel Poetry Contest" is "Sourdough Moon"

Honorable Mention (poem) at "Shadows and Light Poetry Contest" is "Faith vs Fear"

THE STORY

An exchange student in Dublin gets accused of smuggling in an invasive species.

WHAT I LIKED

Great character voice. I felt like I was a fly on the wall watching the drama unfold.

POV NARRATION/TENSE

This is told by a letter written by Layla. Past tense is used in the story.

OPENING PARAGRAPH

The opening paragraph sets the stage in Dublin Ireland for the hijinks.

CHARACTERS

Layla and her brother Abdullah have the cultural misadventure in Ireland.

FLOW & PACING

The opening does a good job setting up the story, the middle is where the confusion unfolds, and the ending has a good resolution.

A construction guy inherits a mansion and wants to flip it but there's an annoying little mirror in the way...

WHAT I LIKED

That was some crazy vacuum!

POV NARRATION/TENSE

This is told in the 1st person by an unnamed male narrator. Past tense is used in the story.

DIALOGUE

The dialogue accents the narration. Good use of dialogue tags.

OPENING PARAGRAPH

The opening paragraph engages the reader in with a strong conversational tone along with a hint of the dramatic with Josh falling into the mirror.

CHARACTERS

The characters are colorful and unique. The contractor is likable enough but the vacuum steals the show.

A parrot helps Captain O'Leary solve the Cop Shop Mystery on Founder's Day.

WHAT I LIKED

I liked how Captain O'Leary was inspired to flush the crooks out in the open. True Genius!

POV NARRATION/TENSE

This is told in the 3rd person omniscient. Past tense is used in the story.

DIALOGUE

The dialogue drives the narration.

OPENING PARAGRAPH

The opening paragraph sets up the dilemma who stole the loot. There are a lot of suspects, but some are more suss than others.

CHARACTERS

The characters are highly entertaining and keep the readers engaged. Bingo had to be my favorite, but Brimley and Polly Wanda Cracka were a hoot in their own comedic ways.

Veteran's Hip-hop

I'm a vet, yeah, you know the ones
I stood up for us when others were scared
I dodged bombs in Afghanistan
Watched my friends lose arms and legs
Lost myself in what I did
Never ran, never hid
Never get offended
By my actions, what I had to do
It's over now, but the burden remains
You can't see the hidden pains
Inside my soul, those stormy rains
Always there, nothing new
Gotta keep going
Y'all gotta be knowing
I'm still fighting
I'm still writing
Keep on rapping
Watching it happen
Hoping for change
But that's outta my range
I pray every day
That's my way
Come what may
Y'all know I'm ready
