I think Vancouver Island is indeed very similar to San Juan Island especially navigating around in kayaks. Did I ever tell you about the time I took my kayak out onto the lake camping with first husband. I had asked him multiple times if he wanted something to eat before I went out on the lake and he declined so off I went. I'm enjoying the early foliage and the sunshine when I hear him yelling Lynda, Lynda. I think to myself damn it, why can't you let me have time alone. I start paddling toward shore when up pops a moose in front of my kayak maybe 10 feet in front of me. I start back paddling as fast as I can and navigate along the shore keeping my eye on the moose who is enjoying himself eating the green slimy plants from under the water. He would dunk down and get more and resurface to chow down. I made it to shore and my husband is laughing his ass. He says,"I tried to tell you."
No, you didn't. You just screamed my name. I shoved him into the lake and dragged my kayak back to camp. Moose can swim underwater quite a distance I later learned despite their size.
Yup, you described white water rafting to a tee. You get jostled, splashed, and grit your teeth so hard and scream before you hit the shore many times. It's so much fun!!!
