| Assignment #7 "Oct. 7 - "Climax (Where is the story going?):" "Plot: Climax (Where is the story going?)" Where is your story going? Describe the climax, the point at which everything changes and the tension of the primary conflict is finally resolved. Use the 'What If' brainstorming exercise to create a list of possibilities, remembering to consider the growth of / change in your main character(s) as a result of this event. The climax can be as hidden and seemingly tiny as that moment when your character finally makes that decision they've been dreading or avoiding for fifteen chapters, or it can be as huge and obvious as an exploding planet. Sometimes, the climax is a little hard to pin down. Was it the moment Ender won his game? Or was it the moment he realized the moving images on his screen were not a simulation, not the game he thought it was, and that he had just personally wiped out an entire alien race? I'm focusing mostly on book 1 with this prep, with accenting the second book when it comes to the third protagonist. What if the hero isn't the hero? This kind of is the height of the climax, also a plot twist. I know that Fantasy is kind of built upon cliches and tropes and I wanted to take a spin on that. We find out that Adelaide, after spending all of book 1 with her, isn't the Chosen. We find out afterward that Dane's mother, Lady Althena, made a mistake. She misread/misunderstood the prophecy, because Adelaide was a twin. She took the Prophecy literally in certain spots, where she thought it made sense to as the prospect of the Chosen being a twin never crossed her mind. It's realized that the twin she sent to Earth for protection was actually the Chosen. What if magic could be assigned and unassigned? Another leading to the Climax. Adelaide has to go to the River Passea, which is the supposed entrance to Vala, the land of the underworld. It is there that the prized power to defeat the big bad was placed to protect it. It's protected by the fact that you must be the Chosen in order to enter. Because in like other folklore, River Passea is the river of the dead and it is where the dead enter the underworld. So, you have to be dead to cross, unless you're the Chosen, in which you will be able to leave alive. If you make it, you are bestowed this magical power. |
