This is a puzzle created for my 6th grade class after viewing Sister Act 2. |
Some of my 6th grade students still have issues with respecting specialist classes. Since it's the end of the year and classes are finishing, I opted for them to watch a movie that shows a high school class's attitude and behavior transformation when a new teacher is placed in the classroom. In the end, this class won an all-state competition and saving the school from closing. To introduce the movie, I gave my students a "Do Now" assignment of answering the following three questions in paragraph form: 1. Are Specials classes (Music, Art, Gym, Library, Computer, Spanish, Life Skills) important to them? Why or why not? 2. What is your favorite Specials class? 3. What is your least favorite Specials class? After completing this assignment we viewed "Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit", starring Whoopie Goldberg. This opened them up to a montage of styles of music, music vocabulary, and many important themes. It's important for them to respect their Specials classes whether or not they like their Specialists. Working together as a team allows people to accomplish many things. Learning to follow your heart to find happiness in what you do can help with self-confidence. These and many other themes are valuable things for these students to learn. I am using both a word search and a crossword puzzle to wrap up these lesson plans. Enjoy! |
