To write a 5–7–5
haiku:
The first line of the haiku needs to be 5 syllables. The second line needs to be 7 syllables. The third line needs to be 5 syllables.
In her cape of red
Fearless hero, never fled
Muffy's legend spread

Tanka has a pattern of 5-7-5-7-7. Tanka are divided into an upper phrase, containing the first three lines, and the lower phrase, which contains the last two lines.
I so love my dog
She is fearless and loyal.

When she laughs I feel happy

acrostic poem, each line starts with a capital letter that spells out the poem's word.

Limerick poems have five lines, in an AABBA rhyme scheme. The first, second, and fifth lines are longer, with a bouncy rhythm, while the third and fourth lines act as a twist, delivering the humorous punchline.
Here's probably the most famous one, written by Prof. Dayton Voorhees in 1902:
There once was a man from Nantucket
Who kept all his cash in a bucket.
But his daughter named, Nan
Ran away with a man
And as for the bucket, Nantucket.
