Hi. I agree with Justice, though I think Boy's Life has a limit of 1500 words. Go with the underlying genre of the story. Also, try and figure out what you hope to get out of selling this story ... if you must have $1000, you'll be competing with tens of thousands of other manuscripts for a very few top spots. If you're okay with getting $100 or less, suddenly there are hundreds of markets. If you just want people to see it, you can just throw it on some website, but that always feels like giving up to me.
Either way, waiting is never a helpful strategy. While you're waiting, thousands of other stories are being written.
