SLAM!

"Invalid Item" 

The fluorescent light drove a spike into her head. She stumbled to the door, gasping for fresh air amongst the din of the alleyway. She needed open space, away from the smog for a moment. Pulling her shawl tighter around her, she began walking. Slowly, she passed tattoo parlors and smoke shops on her way to the park. She needed the grass; begged for it even.

A car pulled up and the driver asked for directions as hands roughly grabbed her elbows and dragged her to the back-seat. She allowed them to take her. Her fear was not for herself. The tires squealed away from the curb as they pulled a hood over her head to blind her to everything.

She could smell, through the canvas of the bag, their anxiousness, their delight, but also, their terror.

She recognized the rhythmic sounds of the tires on the road as the bridge that headed towards the pier. They were bringing her to the water. She hated water, especially that water. The stench reminded her of death. She had already seen too much death.

As the car slowed to a stop, she could hear a voice getting closer as the driver spoke to someone out the window. They pushed her to the open door and out of the car. They pulled on her arms to tie her hands and she began to whisper quietly to herself. As the rope tightened around her wrists, she vanished.

Her bindings, her clothing, and the canvas bag fell to the pavement with barely a sound.

The sudden obscuring cloud gave them pause as incorporeal, she reached for one of them. He fell without a sound. The smells of fear and death were overwhelming her, but she knew there was no other way. They would keep coming.

Another fell as she searched for the remaining two. She scurried along the wall, keeping away from the water and trying to remain in the shadows. She nearly ran into one of them. He fell as swiftly as the others. One left.

She felt the knife touch her side and she froze, although the fear was still his to hold as it saturated him.

As he forced the blade into her side, she buried her fangs into his neck and drank, deeply.
