4th-6th gr.

For the next two weeks (at least!) you will be working on an autobiography project. It will be in two stages:

Stage 1:
List at least 25 questions someone might want to know about you. Boring questions result in boring writing, so don't list the obvious. (For example, instead of asking "name?" ask "What name would you have chosen for yourself and why?" Include some interesting/exciting/odd/funny/etc. things you have actually experienced in your life.

Stage 2:
Using the list you created, write a story about yourself. It can cover a single incident in your life, or an extended period of time. This should not sound like a report! For example, include dialogue, plot, setting, etc. Show, don't tell! You can add/change minor details, but this MUST BE BASED ON REAL EVENTS IN YOUR LIFE.

If I were doing this assignment, I'd probably write about my birth, since it's a cool story. I was born in Japan in the middle of a typhoon, when the hospital lost all power & the doctor couldn't get there. I ended up being delivered by a plastic surgeon.

7th-12th gr.

Same as 4th-6th gr., except for stage one, you could use

instead of making up the list of questions if you would rather. This exercise is excellent practice for creating believable fictional characters.
