work in progress- writing assignments & links for use in the home school |
Boy, have we had some interesting letters going back & forth in our house, on topics such as computer time limits, how late bedtime should be & one kid making a case for buying a game system. I had hoped to put them all together in a big user's poll for YOU to vote on who had the most convincing argument, but I learned this morning that poll's can only have 500 words (or is it characters????) for the question. So... here's the assignment instead: Construct a user's poll in your portfolio presenting the arguments from your series of letters. This will involve asking a question about your topic: Like "Should we be allowed to spend more than half an hour at a time on the computer?" Then you must list the various answers to choose from. There is space on the poll form to give quite a few choices- be sure to make a choice for each of your arguments, AND a choice for each of your parents' arguments. If there isn't enough room for them all, make sure you at least give equal space to both sides. Also make sure to include an undecided &/or none-of-the-above choice. (I personally HATE not having that option when my personal choice isn't listed!) I don't know if the form allows it, but a fill-in-your-own-reason would be interesting, don't you think? In my example above, choices might include: ___yes, creative computer activities take more than 1/2 hr. ___no, it will rot your brain out ...etc. You may have to make your poll not a question but a statement to keep the choices short enough (I've never done a poll here myself, so I'm not sure the limits here on Writing.com), like: "Worthwhile reasons to spend more than half an hour at a time on the computer:" ___e-mail ___creative projects ___gaming ___no good reasons etc. When you are done, I'll put links here to your polls, so that all our faithful forum readers (plus anyone else that happens upon them!) can vote. Note: only registered members on the site can vote, but I think everyone can see the voting results. |
