In defense of prose poems, the syntax used in those are sometimes breathtakingly powerful and graceful; however, one must concede that they are something other than poems. The prose poem fad started with the French (Baudelaire and Rimbaud}. Thus, they must be as addictive, good(!) for your writing and nourishing as French fries are to your body.
I don't reject prose poems as writing but take them for essaylike studies in language. Robert Bly has some good prose poems. In this site, Harry writes something like prose-story-poems and calls them storoems. They are quite good, I think.
