It probably would have been good to have spoken up, because people really just do not understand, and need it to be explained to them, but, if I were to put myself in your place there, I probably wouldn't have said anything either.
I can really relate to that feeling of being uncomfortable when caught in situations like that. It's tough, a bit scary.
