Angela, From the sound of your words, yoiu've already made the crucial decision - taking the transplant if indeed it's an option. Whether anyone else thinks you're crazy for taking the risk isn't really important. You're the only person that can decide whether it's worth the risk to you. But since you asked, I'll tell you what I think. If you feel it's worth the risk, I think at 37 you've made a very sensible choice. The transplant can definitely improve the quality of your life. It's a good step toward the life you've always wanted. Without it you'll never get away from the constant monitoring and the panic you feel every time blood shows up where it's not supposed to be. I say take the risk as long as YOU feel it's worth it , get the kidney, then make darn sure that you get a more active life style ASAP so you can help minimize all those stones you've gotten such pain from all these years. Take advantage of the chance the kidney will give you and get more active - that activity will help keep the kidney in the best possible condition so you can more easily enjoy all those wonderful years you still have ahead of you. |
