One of the things I love about her is that she pranked with meter, thus the need for the dashes. You can use both and be perfectly fine, or you can sing your poem to the "Yellow Rose Of Texas" if you want to make sure it's "pure." She was an innovator, creator, and decontructionist extraordinaire!
