Review: Lonely Season, by Loraine
Hey Loraine:

This is a short beginning. I wish there was more to comment on. I shall try though…

Plot: Laura got screwed by her hubbie. She’s getting evicted, has a pile of bills, no water, no money, no food. She’s sad and trying to self soother when some rude carpenter starts nailing her door shut. From there I can only guess that she’s gonna wallow in sexual misery to complete her sin.

Character: Is introduced but not fully fledged yet.

Settings is described.

Suggestions: It’s the English as a second language that’s giving you problems. Note the bolded and changed parts so you can understand. On not in, do not did, and hadn’t not hasn’t.

My Opinion: Like Bridget and Marlene, you’re not very far yet, so it’s difficult to give you a good opinion. Get crackin’. Write it all out and I’ll be back to see what happens.

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

FINAL NOTICE

Your rent is past due. Your payment
is due immediately. You must be out
of the apartment in 30 days as of the
date of this notice.

Laura felt her neighbor’s eyes piercing through her back like knives. The nosey woman surely saw when the building superintendent placed the note on her apartment door for the other tenants to see. The old woman loved gossip as much as she loved her solitude. Her body shivered with the coldness that took root in her chore chore? Do you mean core? at so many eviction notices she got in the past months. She refused to let the tears fall and show weakness at her impending future. Working for the government made it difficult on her finances after the many problems going on in the country she currently called home.

She wanted to fly back to her birthplace and completely forget about everything, still she couldn’t. She needed to live here for at least another year before her paperwork declared her MIA: a US Citizen and two more afterward. At the presentcomma she felt so lonely that she started considering so many venues of leaving everything behind and starting anew in her own country. Memories of better times invaded her mind. She saw the adolescent she once was running freely toward home while a group of her friends followed closely behind. They grew up to be the best athletes in the country and even participated around the world before she decided she fell in love.

Carlos, why did you did do it? Why? Her mind screamed for her aching heart. Tears gathered in her eyes once more, tears she refused to let out. Ever since she arrived to the country, she had an easy life as her husband promised. What she hadn’t known was that he just needed her for his own amusement. A hand inon the doorknob, she walked? down the hallway. It was quiet, something unusual at six in the afternoon. Still she knew that Gloria, her neighbor was peering through the sliver in her door. She liked to keep the door slightly open with the excuse of hearing if something happened, she knew otherwise. Going inside her apartment she closed the door behind her and looked around. Everything appeared the same. The walls devoid of any adornment, the empty spaces where furniture used to be, was all that furnished her humble home now. Necessity made her sell everything to be able to pay for her rent, now she wondered if she did wrong by it.

Ignoring the grumble in her stomach, she walked past the kitchen to her bedroom. Throwing down her shoes and pursecomma she stumbled into her bed. She could not believe that only six months ago, she was still living in a world of lies. A world she believed to be real. All of a suddencomma Carlos left her without even an explanation, b Bills started arriving with past due notices. The credit cards were to their limit and some even over it. She learned the hard way Carlos had been without a job for two months and just hid everything from her and none of their friends knew his whereabouts.

Laura started concentrating in on her breathing, her body started to relax. Since she showered in the school’s gym bathrooms she didn’t need to worry that much about the lack of water in her apartment. Blocking every sound from the streetcomma she started massaging her chest. She knew she needed to relax completely to be able to sleep and she only knew one way to do so, without any worry or memory of her current situation.

She could feel the soft fingertips leaving a heated path in on her body. They roamed her soft skin with the delicacy of a feather. She shivered with desire and still refused to touch her even more sensitive spots. Her breath heavy, her eyes closed, she enjoyed every sensation her touch produced. Heat invaded her and a new hunger, hunger for completion. She wanted to feel complete, to feel like a woman once more, a desired woman. A face appeared in her mind, for the first time in the last months it was not Carlos’ angry image. It was Roberto’s, her partner at work.

Her long forbidden fantasies came back with a vengeance and she felt her body tense in expectation. She felt his breathing in on her neck that summer night a year ago. She could feel the warmth in against/ her neck. His big and lightly calloused hands roaming through over her bare arms while kissing her mouth. His tongue exploring her as a Boy Scout would a forest. His throbbing member pulsing against her belly while their bodies almost melted to be one. Their clothes still on, plastered to their sweatedy bodies, not impending their matting mating if they chose to do so. Lost in thoughtscomma she heard a constant sound interrupting their moment. Was it a hammer against wood? She could not remember any sound interrupting them that night. Only their own conscience did so then.

The sound persistedcomma breaking her concentration. An acrid odor of sweat and dust combined assaulted her nostrils remembering reminding her of her lack of attention to her home. The house certainly hasn’t hadn’t seen a broom or mop in over a month. Spider webs adorned the roof corners and the underside of her bed. The windows screens would not let fresh air through them since they haven’t hadn’t been washed in months or maybe even a year. Focusing in on the source of the sound, Laura went to her door to find a carpenter nailing a wood board to her door. Her breath quickened at the idea of being closed inside her house for the rest of her days, that considering the lack of food, water and electricity will not be more than a few days.

“Hello!” she called out feeling the need of air into her lungs. The banging soundinged even louder to her ears, muting her words.
